Buster collar nightmare - any advice?

DDog (10) had an operation on her face a couple of days ago and is wearing a massive plastic buster collar. She is utterly miserable, she is finding it hard to lie down, eat, get around the house. She just stands by her bed whining. She is keeping her head down so the collar keeps scraping the floor. She managed to get it off last night and has been rubbing the wound and it has bled a little but I think the stitches are still ok. She is going back to the vet for a check up in the morning. We’ve got another 10 days of this 😣 Will she get used to it?

Any advice as to how I can help her? Thinking of ordering a softer collar - any recommendations?

thanks.

I'd use a softer collar. The big lampshade ones are really hard for some breeds to sleep in.

Inflatable collar was well received here..

@Santaiswashinghissleigh - ah, gorgeous doggo. Unfortunately I don’t think the inflatable collar would work as she would still be able to rub/scratch her face.
@caffelattetogo - thanks, I’m off to research soft collars.

Our greyhound had surgery to a front leg recently and he will not tolerate a lampshade collar, won't lie down or eat etc. We went with putting a long sock over dressing taped down with bandage tape. Was a bit of a pain to keep clean but miles better than the dreaded lampshade collar!

Tbh I wouldn’t get a softer one or an inflatable one for a face wound - she’d be able to rub it.

one of mine had a cone a couple of months ago for a leg thing, for the first couple of days we had to hold up his food and water bowl for him, would only go to the toilet once a day when he got absolutely bursting and it’s hard to describe but he wouldn’t bend his neck, so he couldn’t see 😐

He got used to it, just took a while.

He’s not a collie, but he’s a something herdy mongrel, so similar shape, same sort of easily upset nature, but without the brains 🤣
