Inflatable collar vs cone for an ear op?

Our spaniel is due to have a total ear canal ablation next week. Would an inflatable collar be better than a cone? Would it actually stop him scratching his ear?

Sorry if this has been done to death - I can't find a thread specific to ear operations.

My boy had the ear canal removed a couple of months ago. He had to have a cone because he could reach his ear to scratch it with his back leg over the inflatable, although I think the fur growing back was more irritating for him.

Thank you, that was my concern. We might buy one anyway and give it a try - the operation is costing £4600, so a potentially wasted tenner isn't going to make much difference 🙈.

@Toooldtoworry can I ask how his hearing is? Mine's only having one ear done so I'm hoping it won't be too badly affected.

We'd had 2 'clear out' ops prior at 3.6k for both, plus £6k for the teca, so I feel for you!

His hearing is no different. He also only had one side done, but I have a suspicion we might end up with the other going eventually.

Just glad I insured him from 8 weeks.
