Did apoquel work for your dog?

Just ordered apoquel for my dog. She is at the worst she's ever been. I was originally giving her steroids but it hasn't reacted well with her. Just wondering for anyone who's dog is on apoquel, is it it working for them?

My cocker spaniel was prescribed this last week by the vets for very itchy skin and it has been applied twice and he is so much better but he is also on some anti- itch medication too. Hope things improve for your your dog soon.

My dog has been on this for about 6 years - it works brilliantly. You can really see the difference if we don't re-order in time

Yes, he's been on it two years and it has transformed his life. No more itching (like pp you can really tell the difference if he misses a couple of doses), calmer, happier all round. It's not cheap so we get a vet prescription then buy online.

Mine’s just been prescribed this - we’re on day 4. He does seem to be scratching a bit less but has definitely been a bit down today. He pooed inside (he never does this) and then was sick this afternoon and has spent the evening in his bed. Keeping an eye on him.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it's been mostly positive. I've ordered mine online as it is so much cheaper! Desperate for it to arrive now as my pooch is not happy. @BestIsWest hoping your pup feels better and the apoquel begins to work for them 🤞.

My cat has been on Apoquel for the last five years (I know, it’s a dog medication. I know, potential complications for cats. It was very much a last resort) and it’s a life changer for him. He now has a full coat of fur and everything!

BigDahliaFan · 01/11/2023 11:27

Ours has been on it for about 2 years...she's much better on it. She is also on hypoallergenic food which has helped too.

Pooch has been sick a few more times last night but as DH points out, he’s prone to eating random garden plants so it might not be the Apoquel ( we don’t have anything poisonous for this reason). I’m going to give him a day or two off the Apoquel and maybe some chicken and rice later and then re introduce it in a few days.

Yes, it did. He used to take it through the summer months to deal with itching during grass pollen season. But he can't have apoquel any more as he's older, and the balance of risks isn't worth it. I'm not a vet but as I understand it, if he got a tumour while on apoquel it would accelerate faster than without it, so our vet is reluctant to prescribe it for older dogs.
