What breed to get?

We lost our perfect dog earlier this year and are just about ready to start thinking of a new dog
We are at home a lot but do travel quite a bit but have lots of options to manage that.
Our dog was a cocker spaniel and I'm not sure we are ready to take on another spaniel
I think we need an easier breed as we are now in our late 60s.
We also have grandchildren so would like them to be a breed that gets in well with children.
We are going round in circles looking at different breeds any suggestions?

We got a miniature poodle last year. We’ve had dogs before and I can honestly say, this is the easiest we’ve known. She’s absolutely delightful! She’s been a dream to train, she’s very loving, gentle, quiet and she doesn’t shed. Our breeder told us how to clip her, so we do it ourselves. We’ve actually got pretty good at it now.

If you can find a good breeder, who extensively health checks, a cavalier?

I know Jack Russell Terriers can be given a bad reputation but I can honestly say my two have been absolutely fabulous. Oldest died in 2019 and now have an 8 year old . If she isn’t walked until late morning she just lies under duvet and has to be dragged out . Easy to train, friendly absolutely great with granddaughter. She really is my soul mate .

Lurcher. Most intelligent, clever dog I've ever had. Wish I'd found lurchers 30 years ago.

Labrador. They are the most popular breed for a very good reason.

My late Chihuahuas were loving, easygoing, playful little boys. I'd get two so they have one another for companionship.
