Swollen eyelid

We got back from a walk an hour ago and my dog was rubbing her eye with her paw - now I’ve noticed her upper eyelid is quite swollen. It doesn’t seem to be bothering her too much - do you think I can get away with cleaning it with warm compresses and keep an eye on it or does it need an emergency weekend vet visit?! If it was me (or my child!!) I’d treat it at home and see if it improved by Monday but I feel more worried about my dog!

She could have been bitten or have a grass seed under her eyelid or something. Get someone to hold her, bathe it and have a good look.
Many vets are open on a Sat & Sunday, just shorter hours, it doesn’t have to be an emergency appointment, but I would probably see how it looks in the morning and decide then tbh.

Anything eye related I would treat as an emergency, especially as you don't know the cause.

Dogs can't tell you they're in pain or what the problem is, and if it's something like a grass seed or a scratched cornea, the sooner it's dealt with the better.

Thanks for your replies! Pleased to report that after regular warm compresses her eye is almost back to normal. Thank goodness!
