Older dog - tiny kitten - help!

We’ve recently adopted a very young kitten - he was dumped in the hedge bordering one of our fields. He’s about 8 weeks old now and is bouncing with health. We have two dogs aged 10 and 1 and a grumpy 16 year old (we think) cat already living in the house. The vet advised us to keep the kitten quarantined from our older cat as he was quite snotty when we found him so the kitten is mostly in my husband’s office and coming into the living room in the evenings when the older cat has stomped off to bed. The younger dog is fine with the kitten - a bit boisterous and sometimes gets a bit in his face but nothing dangerous and the kitten isn’t at all fazed by him. The problem is the older dog who doesn’t seem to be recognising the kitten as a cat. When he arrived as a puppy we had two adult cats who both whopped him on the nose as soon as he got too close so he’s always had a healthy respect for cats in the house. However as soon as he sees the kitten he starts trembling with excitement, whines and darts towards the kitten in a very alarming way. We’ve got him on a house lead whenever they’re in the same room and are keeping introductions short but it’s not getting any better. I’ve never thought of him as having a high prey drive - he once killed a baby squirrel that fell out of a tree in front of him but that’s the only time he’s ever harmed another creature and that was years ago but I really don’t like the way he’s eyeing up the kitten and frankly wouldn’t trust him for a second if unrestrained. How do we progress from here ??
