How to stop dog chewing through throws and blankets.

Our dog has chew treats and plenty of chew toys but he constantly chews blankets and throws whenever he is near one. We took the blankets out of the lounge, but now the weather is getting colder and we are trying to avoid putting the heating on, my DC want to take blankets into the lounge. The minute our dog sees a blanket he gets excited and immediately tries to chew it. Is there anything I can do to stop this behaviour? Thanks.

Is it specifically blankets, or is there anything else he chews that he shouldn't? (His bed for example).
If so the "exchange for an alternative toy" may not work as the blanket is more valuable in his eyes.
Perhaps have a few sacrificial old blankets to begin with and spritz some anti-chew spray on them. If he learns they taste awful the positive association may break.

Thanks for the reply.
No, it’s not just blankets. He has bit through several dog beds that he has had too. It seems to be fabric generally. Even our dressing gowns have been targeted. I will try the anti-chew spray, I didn’t know such a product existed. So thanks for that tip.
