What is something about your dog you just love that is utterly unexpected that you love?

I'm not talking traits you know foe the breed but something about your dog that just makes you all aww.

For me I have a Basset hound known for sniffing and long ears and being lazy and gentle

My unexpected favourite thing about him is how he sounds like a freight runaway train (dh says a horse galloping) when he comes running full speed at you. It fills my hear with joy each time
100% not something mentioned in the breed descriptions

And mine tells me when it’s bed time, not the other way around !

dressedforcomfort · 15/10/2023 22:01

She loves lying in the garden hammock with me. Takes a flying leap into it whenever I'm there.

She likes to nibble affectionately on my finger when I'm giving her belly scratches

My two border terriers wait for me to get out of the shower then lick all the water off my feet and calves. I've had dogs all my life and hadn't experienced this until these two.

My much-missed chocolate lab did this. He would try to "save" me from the bath as well as he couldn't understand why I would want to be in there and he would nudge my arm until I got out, then I'd get the leg/foot licks because I must have smelt funny to him.

HardcoreLadyType · 15/10/2023 22:05

DH does almost all the feeding and walking, and yet, if there’s a choice of who to snuggle up with on the sofa, it is almost always me.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 15/10/2023 22:17

Two things.

When she has zoomies and she races around a corner and ticks her bum and tail in to get more purchase. She's very fast.

When daddy comes in from work she barks in excitement at him then comes back to me to tell me in another type of bark that daddy is home. Then she goes and greets him.

She's a needy thing and does the paw on your arm thing too. Super sweet.

I am loving your doggies.

I love it when my dog is dreaming and starts "talking" and her legs starts peddling in the air.

Somedays I work from home and these day starts with a team meeting online. My dog bounds up to my desk, launches onto my knee looks at the screen makes a peculiar noise that sounds like "morning" to the team.

My dog (Heinz 57 rescue) nibbles the neck of people he loves. We’ve now taught him t do it on command and it’s the cutest loveliest thing as it’s absolute trust

Aquestioningmind · 15/10/2023 22:26

My cocker spaniel rolls onto her back and paws at me with her front paws until I kiss her tummy (like you would a baby with big exaggerated noises). When I do it she then rubs her paws over her eyes and then snuggles down to sleep. She won’t go to bed at night until I’ve done it.

My golden will sometimes walk with his nose shoved into my hand (if it’s hanging by my side) and literally ignore everything and everyone (even people trying to pat him). It’s a perfect walk to heel, just with his nose in my hand. He’ll only do it the day after I’ve been in the office and left him at home - I think it’s a scent thing.

Both are utterly adorable and unique to them.

flustereddriver75 · 15/10/2023 23:20

My dog used to check on me in the night, she had her own bedroom next to mine where she slept quite happily but every couple of hours she'd pop along to my room, sniff me over then satisfied that I was still there and still alive she'd go back to bed.

In the last couple of years I've been diagnosed with quite serious sleep Apnea and it's made me wonder if she was actually coming in because I'd stopped breathing.

Enko · 16/10/2023 07:18

I'm loving all of these. Dogs really enrich your life.

My pug sounds like chewbacca when he yawns, it’s hilarious 😆

CheerfulYank · 16/10/2023 07:23

I expected all the beagle puppy craziness and there’s plenty of it…but he’s so cuddly when he’s sleepy and it’s so sweet.

I forgot one which my gorgeous boy did last night to remind me. If you walk past him as he's lying down, he'll reach his front paws out and grab your leg so you're trapped. He'll only let you go if you give him sufficient cuddles.

Bonus pic of him looking adorable the other day.

We have two other dogs and of course I love them too, DH had them before we met, this boy was my choice to add to our family so there is an extra bond there. He's definitely a "mummy's boy" although he loves all of us.

More pics, just because. Big dog loves to cross his legs and I love that he makes a heart shape when he does it.

Extra pic of the little dogs. They're in the bad books for raking through the bins when we were out yesterday but they get away with murder because they're so cute.

my jack russell runs down a hill looking so happy

MyCircumference · 16/10/2023 07:42

my jack Russell plays football, dribbles a ball with her nose

if we meet people, she loves it, she pushes a ball towards them to throw

IHeartGeneHunt · 16/10/2023 08:01

@Rooma my Jack Russell does that!
She's a rescue and she's completely deaf from birth, and nobody had tried to train her, but she's learnt signs and she lip reads somehow. If she wants something she spins around in a circle. (And you're expected to know what she means.)

If it's a very cold night she gets into bed with me and lies in my arms with her head under my chin. I do love the little nutjob.

Liz2681 · 16/10/2023 08:24

How he loves to snuggle up under a blanket. He also wakes up DH with cuddles under the duvet every morning - although I'm only slightly jealous, DH also has a crazy stressful job so love he gets to at least start his day with a nice thing.

I don’t have dogs anymore but I love it when you quietly say hello to a passing dog and you get a little wag in response.

hiredandsqueak · 16/10/2023 09:08

That she senses dd and ds's needs (asd) and instinctively knows whether they need her cuddled up next to them, on their knee or if they need a bit of space. That when ds comes home from a night at his df's she greets him like a conquering hero, guides him to sit on the sofa so that she can get on his knee and snuggle in tight. Ds's smile at this melts my heart. No therapy dog training in any sense of the word but she is so tuned in and gives what they need anyway.

Moomoomo · 16/10/2023 09:14

How proud he is of "his" garden. He clambers up the kids climbing frame and sits up the top surveying his kingdom like something out of the lion king. He would look quite regal and impressive if he were on top of a rock or something. Less so perched on top of a plastic multicoloured monstrosity.

Dogs are amazingly intuitive. My older daughter has learning difficulties and all the dogs we have had over the years have behaved slightly differently with her compared with the rest of us, sensing what she needs.

Loving all these stories!

The way mine tucks himself up under the duvet. If I'm late going to bed or in the shower in the morning he wraps himself in the duvet, usually with his head sticking out looking like a person

Mine does this. He can get under the duvet faster than I can.
