Ashes from vet

It's just over two weeks since we said our last goodbye.

Still waiting for her ashes to be returned to us. Phone vet - nothing as yet.

How long did you wait it would expect to wait.

Just need some closure. X

Oh bless you.

I think the time varies but we have usually had them back soon after two weeks.

I agree about the closure. Flowers

Oh 2 weeks is too long. We had our ashes back within 3 days.

Ask the vet for the number of the pet crematorium they use and ring them directly.

So sorry for your loss Flowers.

So sorry for your loss. We're waiting too and it's horrible 😢

Topseyt123 · 05/10/2023 17:07

I've had to have three elderly pets put to sleep on different occasions over the last few years and on each occasion I am sure we had their ashes back well before then

I'm sorry you are in this position at such a difficult time. I'd keep chasing the vet and enquiring about what the delay is.

Did you definitely specify individual cremation and return of the ashes on the forms?

I think I waited around 2 weeks for my Cats ashes

Sad Ours were returned on Day 5, iirc. Certainly under a week. So sorry.
StarlightLime · 05/10/2023 17:16

Actually, just a thought, op. Did you request a private (as in sole animal) cremation, or a general one? The latter will take longer.

woodlandtrees · 05/10/2023 20:08

Requested individual with ashes to be return in wooden box with name.

I was so distraught at the time I assume this is accepted as an individual cremation.

God feel awful 😢

Ours was individual too op, still only took 3 days. I really would liaise directly with the crematorium and ask why the delay.

Ah Sad. Give them a call, it shouldn't have taken this long. Ours was also individual, and took 5 days at most.

OnTheBoardwalk · 05/10/2023 20:25

sorry for your loss

vets tend to outsource cremations. Did they give you a pack with the details? Coming back in a box is an individual cremation

if not ring them and ask for the crematoriums details and hope they give you an update soon

Cantonet · 05/10/2023 20:32

It's not Whitley Brook Pet Crematorium is it? If so it took us about 19 days to receive our doggies ashes.. We had no communication over that time period as to what was going on apart from my vets phoning them to see when the ashes would be returned. I do agree with your it's very upsetting.

Floralnomad · 05/10/2023 20:33

We always use a local pet crematorium , so arrange it ourselves and usually they are ready next day unless they are very very busy . I hope you get them back soon 💐

robinsnest1967 · 05/10/2023 20:34

It's been 9 days for me, paid for a little cat urn. Haven't heard from the vet and feel too sad to call.

Lonecatwithkitten · 05/10/2023 21:18

It depends on a number of factors how often the cremation service collect from the practice and whether the same cremation site is used each time they are collected.
I tell my clients it will be 10-14 days, usually it is 7 days from the collection from us, but we don't have a collection everyday. Our service has several sites so if one is out of service it can be more than 7 days combine that if a pet passes on a Friday we have no collection till Monday is what leads to up to 14 days.
