What is this on my dog’s ear?

My Labrador developed a patch of dry, scabby skin on the underside of his ear (towards the outer edge) a few months ago. It did fall off and the hair in this area fell out. I bathed it and it seemed to heal. A couple of weeks ago, he developed a small scab which then got bigger and, this afternoon, it seems to have burst. All that came out was blood; no pus and it does not smell. My vet nurse friend said it was likely an ear haematoma and, because it wasn’t upsetting him / discharging, she said to keep an eye on it.

I have an appointment with the vet next week, but does anyone know what this is / if it definitely is an ear haematoma? I’ve been bathing it with salt water and have sprayed some Lucillin on it to keep it clean.

The first pic is when it was scabby and the second pic is now that it has been bleeding. The dark scab on the top has come off.
