My dog has to have and I'm worried :(

The light of my life apart from the DC has to have a GA soon and I'm so worried.

It's not for something life threatening and could be manageable, but it does cause her some discomfort and pain fairly frequently. It's not hugely invasive op either will prob take 20 mins max

I'm so torn over what to do. She's been spayed and I was bad enough over that but it needed doing. This issue isn't as necessary, but there's no doubt it upsets her 😔

Shes fairly young and in good health otherwise.

Will she be ok? I can't stop worrying something awful will happen and she won't wake up.

@Megifer Bless you. My 13 year old dog at the time had to have GA for quite a large op and he was absolutely fine but I was exactly the same as you. I think I phoned the vets every half an hour from start to finish! It is worrying but sounds like it's for the best if the issue is causing problems.

Thank you, I was a nightmare when she was spayed, and rang them 2 minutes after they said they'd phone me because I was convinced something had happened.

I know she needs it doing, it's a benign fatty lump on her neck but it really does seem to bother her quite often as it's pretty big now 😔 she was ok just being sedated when he tested it but vet said he can't fully remove/drain it just with sedation.

At least they are doing it first appointment so she won't be scared and lonely for very long and hes said i can pick her up in the afternoon. I feel sick though 😫

Sorry, am waffling. Ignore me

@Megifer Ah bless you. You're not waffling, you're just anxious. I felt the same and honestly felt sick all day. I dropped him off in the morning and forced myself into town to sort out some shopping so my mind was taken off of it slightly. Is this something you could do? It did help I think as I knew if I were home I'd be a mess. I couldn't be a huge mess in public 😉

General anaesthesia is very safe in dogs - so safe my 14year old had a 750g lipoma ( a benign fat lump …. Like the hound ) removed . It’s always a worry though isn’t it until you pick them up .

My lovely work colleague has asked me to help her out with a training session, its not my thing anymore but she knows I get 'in the zone' when delivering training. She said its because she's not massively confident in that area yet but she's amazing so I think she's done it deliberately to help take my mind off it ☺️

My dog has had several GA's, some for emergency surgery when he had been very unwell.

It's perfectly natural to worry and think the worst. I have been the same even though we have been through it too many times.

But they do many all the time and there are vet nurses watching out for them whilst the vet carries out the procedure.
