FFS how do I stop the dog eating the cat's poo??!!

DDog (2 year old cockapoo) has started eating the cat's poo out of the litter tray, she hasn't done this since she was a puppy and it's actually turning my stomach as her breath then stinks of cat poo (which is a smell that is indescribable).
I have no idea why she's started doing this. She's a greedy dog at the best of times, honestly think she's a lab as she would literally eat any aul shite (literally) and is always begging, but this is a whole other level.
Can't get rid of tray as I have an elderly cat who needs it, can't elevate the tray as we don't have room.
Have shouted, put her outside when she's done it. All in vain

At my wit's end, starting to wish I'd stuck to cats, dogs are just disgusting at times 🤢
Any ideas to get her to stop this??

I have my litter tray inside a blanket box. It looks cool and I can put my drinks on it, too.

Reallynotoverreacting · 16/09/2023 16:27

We've thought about making some sort of box, but actually you've made me think that maybe we need one of those closed in litter trays, I forgot about those.
Just can't believe she's doing this, yuk

Litter tray with a door, door of the tray facing a wall with room for the cat but not the dog and vigilance is what I do for the downstairs one and the upstairs one is in a room the cat can get in but not the dogs... I actually just use a fireguard because I put it there temporarily one day and was going to put a stair gate in, but the dog went oh... fence, ok and so I just left it 🤣

A litter tray with a door or in a room your dog can’t access! Our dog did this too, for awhile, and it’s vile. They love those kitty biscuits 🤢

andrainwillmaketheflowersgrow · 16/09/2023 17:24

The only way to do it is to prevent the dog getting access to the tray. Our beagle loves cat poo.

RoseDog · 16/09/2023 17:28

I had to turn the litter tray to face the wall, with a gap big enough for the cat to get in and out and keep a clothes horse next to it, the cat can access it easily but the dog cant!

IkeaMeatballGravy · 16/09/2023 17:29

At least you don't have to scoop the cat's poop I suppose 🤢

Definately give a covered tray a go.

Newpeep · 16/09/2023 17:44

It’s high protein. Show me a dog that doesn’t do it 😂

My current cat doesn’t have a tray but my last one did and it’s just a case of prevention. It was in a room with a gate at the door which the cat could get through but not dog.

That’s a very cute dog, despite her habits!
