Anal glands

So I noticed a fishy smell on Friday, and we said we’d wait over the weekend to see if she sorted it out herself. Never had any anal gland problems before (she’s 2.5). Last night she was incredibly restless and she left a little stinky wet patch on a blanket, and I wiped her clean- bit gross.

Definitely going to vets tomorrow, but my question now is does it make them uncomfortable? Have a greater urgency
to go to the toilet? Because for the last 3 nights she’s woken us up at 3am yelping and needing to go out for a poo. Obviously I don’t want this to become a long term habit and I’m just wondering if the anal glands might be causing her to wake

thanks

I would get her to the vets today if you can - anal gland problems can be incredibly painful and if she's yelping while she's pooing, it could be that she has an abscess or infection that needs medication.

My beagle started with anal gland problems at around three and a half, even though his diet has always been the same and he never had problems before. He now gets one Weetabix a day with his main meal which seems to have stopped it.

She isn’t yelping while pooing, she’s yelping in the night for us to take her out. But she’s very clearly stressed, she’s an easily stressed out anxious dog anyway so it doesn’t take much for her to become very unhappy and it comes out in bad attention seeking behaviours, stealing, guarding, chewing etc. So I know when things aren’t right for her. But it seems a bit much to call ooh vet? Maybe I’ll call them and see what they think.

She does get a scoop of fibre supplement daily as she’s had issues with unpredictable bowels and suspected allergies. She’s on hydrolysed an allergenic food too.
