She’s a 10 year old large breed and she’s having a dental but she has a lump in her mouth and has been coughing and breathing funny lately 😭 she also has arthritis in her back legs but she’s still quite SpriteKit in walks. I took her in at 10:30 this morning they sedated her whilst I was there and I left her, which was very upsetting. I’m just waiting on a phonecall. I’m an utter bag of anxiety can’t get anything done until I receive a phonecall I feel so sick

Aw bless her, it’s awful when you have to leave them isn’t it. Hoping everything is well.

Try to keep busy while you are waiting and please update when you hear something.

tulipsunday · 04/09/2023 15:12

Hope you got an update OP and all is well x

Thanks so I got her back a wee while ago she’s had some teeth out but the vet is worried the lump in her nose is a tumour given her age. She’s taken a biopsy and 🤞we get some answers. If it is a tumour at her age we don’t want anything invasive to happen to her. She looks so happy to be home currently snoozing at my feet

So pleased you have her back home and that she is comfortable. She will be content just knowing she is back with you.

Try not to jump too far ahead or assume the worst and just take each day as it comes. My last dog developed a sizeable tumour on her neck. I remember when I first found it, I immediately jumped to the worst case and assumed we would be losing her before too long but she ended up having many more happy years with us.

Fingers crossed for a good result for you and in the meantime, spoil her rotten 😊

@MuttsNutts thank you she’s doing great after her op but I just j Le there’s. Something nasty happening up her nose you can hear it in her breathing. I am utterly dreading anything happening to her she is my shadow I do nothing without her.

@Astridastro I know, you’re bound to worry but as they get older they can develop lump and bumps all over the place so it’s not necessarily anything sinister.

When do you get the biopsy results?

Astridastro · 07/09/2023 10:14

Oh I know she’s got a few lumps and bumps but they are slow growing so we’ve decided just to leave them as they are just cosmetic really, they aren’t bothering her.

vet said 7-10 days for results which could be inconclusive anyway

If anyone posted and remembers got her results today and she has an inoperable bone tumour in her nose 😭 my poor girl.

The vet talked about referring her probably to the vet school for chemotherapy or radiotherapy or we just wait and see. She’s at the average lifespan of her breed, she’s a very nervous girl and wouldn’t cope with weekly travel to a vet school. We are all torn, what’s best for her, if she were 2 or 5 years younger we would do everything we could for her but at her age with her arthritis part of me just wants to give her the best of the time she has left and she will tell us when she’s had enough.

So sad for you both. Love the idea of letting her live her best life for the time she has left.

hiredandsqueak · 15/09/2023 00:09

So sorry OP

301963Laurie · 15/09/2023 00:14

Am sorry op but I personally would leave her to live happily until the heartbreaking decision has to be made 💕🐾

MuttsNutts · 15/09/2023 14:12

Oh I am so sorry to hear your update.

Personally, I wouldn’t put her through the treatment. I would focus on making sure she was comfortable, pain-free and loved to bits for as long as possible, and then I would give her a dignified passing.
