Are plug in air fresheners safe?

I have 2 large dogs (25kg each) and almost bought one of those febreeze/air wick plug in fresheners today to have in my entrance hallway as I thought it would be nice for guests.
Then I stopped and thought about my pooches and how I wasn't sure if these products are dog safe?

Does anyone know or use them around their dogs? Or could maybe suggest an alternative?

My NDN dog had awful skin problems. She was always at the vet, had special food sent from the US. Poor dog looked like he’d had cigarettes put out on him , his fur had fallen out, skin raw in patches. This went on for months until she noticed an improvement and realised she’d stopped using the air perfumed plug in things. Without those in the house the dog looked fine again within about 6 months. Sadly he died while quite young , was a large dog though, don’t know if there was more harm than just his skin.

I don't think they're safe for humans let alone pets TBH.
