Vomiting dog on a raw diet

My dog ingested something he should not have and has a sickly tummy the last few days . He got an injection at the vets yesterday and a probiotic. Thought we were in the clear but he has just done 2 huge vomits . It’s not smelly or mucusy . Water and whatever food he had early . I only fed him a little of what he would normally have over breakfast and lunch . The vet said to feed bland food so I might cook some chicken for him tomorrow but I think a fast might help until then .Anyone any ideas of what best to give a raw fed dog to help them back to normal . Vet suggested kibble or rice but can’t help thinking carbs would be really hard when dog is not used to them .

Chicken or white fish with rice is what we've always given ours.

@Flat04 a golden retriever 7 years . He is on raw due to struvite history. Not related to this bug. But we don’t give carbs in case it causes them again. He is a total scavenger and has destroyed make up tubes, shoes , chewing gum ( had to make him sick that time ) and recently contents of my sons throat spray which could be the current culprit. Also always on the hunt for mice and birds .

Vet had a good check and said there are no blockages. I just wish I hadn’t fed him today at lunch . He kept breakfast down but I’ll keep him off food now until at least 2 ish tomorrow. I read a good article in the vet med which gives a plan for reintroducing food .

hope both him and I sleep tonight . He has just brought me for a stroll though and he enjoyed a good sniff . He has stopped grunting which he did before and after he vomited so more settled at least .

My boy is 50% raw fed and has occasionally some episodes of being off his food and having a bit of an upset stomach.
I generally let him fast for half a day and cook him some chicken + rice. Never lasted more than 24h.

@FastFood how does the 50 per raw work ? Is he on kibble ?

@Flat04 well I hope our dog will be with us for many more years but he is my last . I am not able to eat or sleep at the moment and am worrying about leaving him for work next week for a few hours . My son usually helps out but he is away for 2 weeks leave .

oh dear that was a big feast of kibble your dog had . They cannot be trusted can they

We would normally just miss the next meal and see how DDog was after that. Chicken and rice would be our go to recovery meal. She is on raw/ kibble diet and has raw food mixed with Wolfworthy kibble at both meals and it suits her well. I know you’re not supposed to mix them but it’s never been an issue.

@Flat04 thats exactly what I did , rolled up my rugs and put down old towels . He did bring up bile I think this morn before I woke but I say that’s because his stomach is empty . We went for a quick stroll at 6 am so he could wee and he is curled up asleep in his bed ever since . Going to hold off giving him anything but his tablet until lunchtime. He enjoyed the walk .

@PricklyWhenWet sounds interesting . I am going to try the rice and chicken later anyway . See how he does . I’m really fed up of wiping up vomit . Thank god for kitchen towel

Quick update , the rice was not a success , he brought it back up. Stomach is probably used to fresh foods. On the advice of my lady from the pet store where I buy busters food I gave him natural organic Greek yoghurt with probiotics mixed in . He loved that I put it in a kong and he kept it down . About 4 tablespoons of yoghurt , A few hours apart .

he has had a little bit of his raw food now as the poor dog is begging off everyone . So fingers crossed he will keep it down .

he has had 2 strolls and a 2 km gentle sniff walk .

watch and see I suppose . Easier mind a child !
