Hi everyone, my girl dog has just been neutered today. She went in at 9 and out at 3. You can tell she is out of it. However she will not rest. She lays down for 5/10 mins then walks around looking sad. I'm not sure what to do. She hasn't eaten she has had some water, she's not due anymore pain relief until tomorrow morning. She went onto my bed (it's low) and lay for 5 mins fell asleep and now wants out. Is this normal? The vet said she would sleep loads but she hasn't lol! She defo looks out of it. And she's wearing one of my DD T-shirts as I refused to pay for a baby grow from the vets x

How is she this morning ?
I find they fight against resting. They try to do things but then feel tired so they are up and down. And perhaps feel uneasy about what has happened to them.

Poor wee girl. Hope she's managed some sleep overnight (and you too).

Cece92 · 31/08/2023 08:39

Thank you 😊 not much sleep happened to be honest she was up like every 15 mins restless. Not sure how I'm gonna get her to take her tablet as she won't eat xx

Hmm, my experience is that they conk out and sleep for hours, then wake up right as rain and wanting to go for a walk 🙈

Can you put the tablet in some cheese or something?

Libmama · 31/08/2023 08:44

Our dog was like this after she was spayed. It was horrible. She hardly ate but I did manage to get her to have her tablets in a bit of babybel cheese. She would eat a bit of chicken too. She also had diarrhoea with blood in it for a couple of days afterwards. Hope pup feels better soon.

Sorry to hear it's not been easy, getting tablets in pets is hard but maybe would she eat it if it was disguised wrapped in ham or another meat / cheese?

Following with interest as our 2 year old is due to be spayed this month.

Janiie · 31/08/2023 09:44

Ring the vets ask them for liquid medication it is much easier to get into them.

We've had 2 dogs spayed, the first a few years ago was like yours up and down very restless, the second one more recently slept for 24hrs and then was fine. You just have to go with it and try and keep the environment quiet.

I would get a bodysuit though, cheaper if you buy online they stop wound licking and the last thing you want is more expense wirh antibiotics if the wound gets infected.

I tried the cheese and chicken this morning as they are life for her but absolutely no interest. She seems to like my pillow from my bed and is currently asleep. Im hoping if she can get a couple hours sleep she will wake up wanting some food. She is a crazy dog usually but she's total out of it and sad. Xx

Bless her! Is the t-shirt working? Just asking so I know whether to spend on a body suit or not. What is the estimated recovery time?

Cece92 · 31/08/2023 12:20

@ilovesushi I'd say to by a kids T-shirt. They offered a baby grow vest for £30 the shirt is absolutely fine. Everytime I look at her I crack up and laugh though: this was a primark one for like £2. My next door neighbour was like ehhh what she got on 😂 I'd say save your money if you can. Xxx

@ilovesushi sorry they said around 14 days for recovery need to go back Monday for post check up. However they did say around 14 days and she can go for her usual big walks. It's the equivalent of women having a hysterectomy they said xxx

When ours was spayed we just used a T-shirt and secured it with one of husbands ties. Worked really well.

Aw, my girl was spayed a year ago and looked just like your little one does, curled up and vunerable. It's hard for you ... I remember that time. In a couple of weeks she's be back to normal.

I fed her some soft cheese from my finger and made sure she had water near. She didn't have an appetite for 2 days. I remember keeping things very quite with the lights down low so her environment was peaceful.

Check her stitches when the plaster comes off. I felt hers were a bit infected and sent a photo to the vet who put her on antibiotics as it had become a little bit infected.

You're being a great dog Mom to her and doing the best for her.
