No Fouling Sign

Currently staying in the Cotswolds and took my boy for a walk around the village. Saw a sign which said No Fouling in the village common which also has a play area in the centre.

Just noticed and realised I've probably been breaking the rule the past few days. Ddog immediately goes when we enter as it's "his kind of spot" if you know what I mean. Obviously pick up.

Am I understanding correctly.

Takes a special kind of person to think it's ok to let your dog shit in a play area though.

It mean don’t let him defecate in the children’s play area . Even picking it up you may leave behind parasites .
I am a dog owner so in no way anti-dog, but now that you have seen the sign, take him somewhere else.

it's one swing and slide a good 30 metres from the hedges which DDog and I hug.

It was a mistake, really unnecessary to be rude. Obviously I care about not breaking rules. Will not repeat.

No fouling means do not let your dog shit here

No fouling means letting your dog poo and not picking it up. You sometimes see signs with this sort of wording

If kids are there they risk getting residue on their hands whether you pick it up or not.
Dogs should be trained to not go in parks for this reason.

That's so weird! You're not allowed to do that anywhere so why have a sign? I honestly thought it meant you couldn't use it as a dog toilet

We have 'failure to pick up will result in a fine' signs which make more sense to me.

I guess in a rural area where people may do the stick and flick thing maybe they need reminding this is a place that's not appropriate.

I suspect it's some sort of legal requirement if they wish to issue fines. Similar to the 'no tipping' signs you see in laybys.

I don’t get those signs, the people who don’t pick up aren’t going to suddenly do it because of a sign.

I just pick up after my dog like I always do when I see those signs. Also, OP clearly stated the play area was part of the common area, people are deliberately ignoring that.

It just means pick up after your dog.

It just means pick up. (Which I do anyway!) Pet dogs aren’t generally trained to poo on command and don’t let you know a few minutes in advance that they plan on going!

No fouling means don't allow your dog to go to the toilet in the vicinity at all.

It's different to the 'pick up your dog poop' signs which mean yes your dog can poo here but please make sure you pick it up.

Yes, the latter responses are correct - it means you have to pick up after your dog.

Also, the initial posters who jumped on the OP for letting her dog poo in a playground need to actually read posts before becoming keyboard warriors - she clearly says he poos on a village common, which also has a playpark in it. Not that the dog is pooing in a playpark.

Very confusing this sign, because surely you should always pick up your dog poo?

This is my understanding, too. If there's a 'No fouling' sign (with no other wording), I avoid the area because he's a contrary bugger and will immediately hunker down. But if it's like the sign posted above, then I'll assume we're okay as long as I pick up. As a general rule I never take him near children's play areas, because it's sometimes impossible to get it all, leaving a smudge on the grass.
