Just had our renewal through. We are with petplan. They want to put it up £80!

It was £430 and it’s now going to be £510. We have life time cover.

it’s the first renewal as she’s just over 1.

Looking to change, can anyone recommend any other good insurance companies? Who is everyone with.

A pic of my pooch to show her cuteness.

Go on money supermarket & do a comparison, or meerkats/ compare the market.
I'm with PDSA for one of my dogs, & Asda for the other, I've claimed on both & neither have gone up much at all.
I'd change but I'd be wary of the two weeks crossover period that you aren't going to be covered for. I've changed before & asked to start before the other insurance runs out because of the gap (most insurance companies won't cover for the first 2 - 4 weeks.
And get at least £10k because vets are very expensive!!

Have you claimed for anything or been to the vets for anything this year as that will be excluded on a new policy . Could you see if they will increase the excess to keep the price down a bit .

I have and lots come up but I’m looking for a decent company that pays out... Not one who will cause me problems with paying out.

Im just wondering what other people are using and can recommend. Thanks for listing your conpanies

Haven’t claimed or used it at all. I thought a £80 increase was a lot considering I haven’t contacted them once or even seen the vet.

I have my dog on the lifetime cover with direct line , never had an issue with it but the premium is pretty high now as he’s 13 and a but infirm . My son has his Siamese cats with Petplan and they do pay out quicker than Direct Line .

We have always used Animal Friends. Claimed a few times, including when she was sadly put to sleep a few weeks ago. Claims were dealt with quickly and smoothly.

Spanielsarepainless · 22/08/2023 21:27

Currently using Many Pets but have used Marks and Spencer in the past and Petguard.

Gizlotsmum · 22/08/2023 21:41

We are with Many Pets , lifetime excess 160/yr and yearly cover of 15000 per illness/injury. Have had pup since March and just put in 2 claims. One settled one pending… costs £58 a month but worth it in my experience all ready as we have already spent more than 6 months worth of payments at the vets!

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 22/08/2023 21:47

That's more than we pay for our 5yo beagle on a lifetime policy with Tesco!

We have a 15k per year limit and pay £57 a month.

RockSocks · 22/08/2023 21:47

I'm with Pdsa we never had to claim for vet fees but we did have to put in a claim on the liability insurance side of things
They were great easy to contact got back to us quickly as well

£510 is about £42 per month. That's about par, I think - for the top level cover.

Brace yourself OP - it'll keep going up and up Sad

I think it only covers up to 7k each year… I was thinking of upping it.

Iv heard Tesco was meant to be good but no one’s mentioned them so far

Make sure you read the policy wording and exclusions before you buy, cheaper policies are cheap for a reason.
