Dog only toilet trained in my house?

I took him to my mum's last weekend and he peed a few times inside, she wasn't pleased... but did say I could bring him again this weekend if he definitely wouldn't do it. I explained that I wasn't sure why, but he has already done it this morning again...

I'd have said marking but he was neutered a month ago as he started marking at mine and it's completely stopped. Is it still just his hormones settling or is this something he will forever do in new environments?

If she hasn’t cleaned it with the special cleaner he will most likely mark again. If it was me I wouldn’t be having him over again.

Sounds like a young dog, how old? Teenage dogs push bpundaries. Were you there? Did you keep control of the dog, reinforce the boundaries? i.e. sit when we're sitting, no jumping on furniture, no begging for food? Or was dog just running around living his best life with no boundaries?

If you didn't maintain control and attention on your dog then I'm not surprised he abandoned his training.

He’s got into a bad habit and can smell where he’s been before so will go again, nothing to do with being neutered. You could try keeping him on a lead all the time indoors, make sure the area he goes in is thoroughly cleaned, put something in the way to stop him getting to the area and take him outside every 30 minutes, praise and give a nice special treat for going outside.

Neutered dogs mark all the time.

I suspect it's because he's in an unfamiliar environment and doesn't understand that he can't toilet there.

You'll need to keep him on a lead so he can't just wander around freely.

Whenever I take my dog anywhere new I always go outside frequently and give him the command to pee. I think this tells him that this is where he goes to toilet.

My house-trained dog peed on the landing up the stairs at the vet. Receptionist sighed and got the mop bucket and said almost every dog had peed there. I forebore to point out that a quick swirl round with a damp mop wasn't doing much to deodorise the area!
