Just saw an advert for amazing sounding pups but mum won't be there - it's a red flag isn't it

As title. Gutted, was making arrangements to view the litter and on checking that mum will be there was told no, only dad as mum was getting upset with the pups so has gone to stay with a friend. Pups are 12 weeks so not tiny but still, it's a red flag is it not?

Definitely a massive red flag, don’t do it!

HiHoHiHoltsOffToWorkWeGo · 10/08/2023 21:23

More red flags than a communist parade that one is

AgathaX · 10/08/2023 21:24

Keep looking.

Cloudsandrainnotsunandsand · 10/08/2023 21:24

We got a dpuppy a bit later at 14 weeks. They weren't with dm all day but we saw her and them together. Have you Googled the address?

Soubriquet · 10/08/2023 21:25

Yeah stay very clear

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 10/08/2023 21:27

How many pups? If they're that amazing I'd wonder why they still had them at 12 weeks as most can begin leaving mum at 8 weeks.

Its not impossible that the mum is fed up with the pups at 12 weeks if they're still trying to feed from her, but I'd expect the owner to bearing her back for the viewing so that the potential buyers can see her.

Id look elsewhere.

Hoppinggreen · 10/08/2023 21:27

I was given that exact same story and believed it.
Poor Ddog came from a puppy farm - luckily it turned out ok

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 10/08/2023 21:27

*bring her back

DandDoodlz67 · 10/08/2023 21:31

The whole set up has my alarm bells ringing! 12 weeks and no mum
im sorry but absolutely not
In my experience the pups will possibly have already missed out on some of the crucial socialisation period
so sad

DoggyNewbie · 10/08/2023 21:31

There are 3 left out of 8. I could ask if they could have her there for the viewing but given that the owners have not offered I'm thinking I should just cancel 🙁

Yeah that's a shame but your really need to see mum I'd probably would have cancelled, do you think you will?

DoggyNewbie · 10/08/2023 21:37

We actually saw a 16 week old puppy today (last of the litter) who did have mum present. However, pup has not been walked at all yet and has been trained to use puppy mats rather than going outside (though they said he was starting to go outside to toilet) which put me off a bit. As my username suggests I am a new prospective dog owner so I'm trying to be responsible and sensible. Would this put you off? Puppy was very friendly, mum too although she was jumping up and very excitable (though to be expected with strangers in the home)? 🤔

Its easy to take puppy pads away although we had a few down at night just in case we didn't get out in time .

Mrsjayy · 10/08/2023 21:41

My pups mum was super friendly you want her to be friendly shows a good confident dog which hopefully she passes that onto her pups.

Wolfiefan · 10/08/2023 21:42

What are you looking for and where are you looking? Decent breeders avoid advertising online and selling to strangers. If you want a pedigree I would go through the breed club. Check what health tests you need to look for. If not set on a breed check out rescues.

DoggyNewbie · 10/08/2023 21:42

@Mrsjayy thank you, it wouldn't put you off then?

Came here to say this. Where are you looking and for what breed?
Good breeders don’t tend to have 12/16 week old puppies sitting around either

Well puppy pads wouldn't worry me no, but.did they say why they still had a pup? Are you looking for a certain breed

Wexone · 10/08/2023 21:50

if you really have to go for a breeder do what @Wolfiefan says. however the local shelter ti me currently has 56 puppies in their care all born in the past 2 weeks. their mothers abandoned. loads of shelters and rescues out there full to the brim. do yoru research and you will get a fabulous dog there really with all the advsertisement and education out there I cannot understand how people still buy dogs this way

Wolfiefan · 10/08/2023 21:52

We only went to a breeder as I really wanted a wolfhound. We also have cats and adding an adult rescue wolfhound would put them at risk.
Local rescues do a great job. As do rescues like black retriever x who put dogs in foster and rehome on the basis of best fit.

DoggyNewbie · 10/08/2023 21:52

Looking for a lab. The one we saw today was from an ad on kennel club org, had relevant papers etc. The one I was making arrangements to view was listed on labrador owners

OP posts:
DoggyNewbie · 10/08/2023 21:53

We have children which means we're not suitable for rescue unfortunately.

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 10/08/2023 21:56

I really think you should see the mum as well as pups.

Wexone · 10/08/2023 21:56

not all rescues block you cause you have children less so when they have puppies

DoggyNewbie · 10/08/2023 21:57

@Mrsjayy the pup we saw today was with mum. I'm definitely not going to see the one that mum is not there
