My first tick

Hello hive mind I need your help. I found a large sheep tick on the sofa today where my dogs sits. It was full and had just fallen off her. I live in a low tick area but the dog has been away in Cornwall with my ex. It’s the first time I’ve seen a tick and was wondering what I should do other than apply tick treatment to the dog. I’ve checked myself (slightly concerned one might be hiding in my thick hair) and think I’m ok. I know the symptoms of Lyme for myself and the dog. Is there anything else I should do around the house? I’ve washed dog blanket and bedding. Thank you in advance 🙂

I wouldn't worry about the house and tick teratment is a good plan. I'd also be checking the dog throughly to see if I could find anymore on her that could be removed immediately.

Thank you both. I’ve tried to see if the dog has anymore but she’s so fluffy and in need of a groom that it’s difficult, hopefully any more will die and fall off now I’ve treated her.

I’d pop it in a bag or pot and stick it in the freezer, just in case it needs testing.

I would give her a good brush/comb through if possible just to make sure there aren't any others.

Her next groom was due to be Thursday but it he groomer’s has had to cancel 😫 so currently trying to find a groomer that can do her soon. Will try and keep her still long enough to give her a good brush in the meantime. Photo was taken with iPhone 13, it takes quite good close up pictures

I find running my hand over the dog is as good a way as any - but by now I would have expected tham all to have drop off (if there were any more). Especially if she's had her tick treatment more than 24 hours ago.
