Hi, not sure what to do...our 14 year old goodest boy (corgle) is showing signs of nearing the end of his life :( he's incontinent both ways (started this week), sleeps constantly and has lost interest in his food, he just looks done. Tests at vets at start of month have shown he's ok, just old 😫this is it isn't it?
What do we do? Just keep taking him to vets until they suggest PTS or do we ask? So sad😔

If he’s not interested in food, I’d say so.
Better a week too soon, than a day too late.

DustyLee123 · 27/07/2023 07:55

And yes, you ask.

Clymene · 27/07/2023 07:56

If he hasn't got any quality of life then it's time to say goodbye. Don't wait to be told.

I'm sorry, it's very hard.

I generally think if you're having to ask the question then yes, it's time.

I'm so sorry - it's the hardest decision Flowers

HatchlingDragon · 27/07/2023 08:09

Yes it's time. So incredibly hard and sad but he needs you to help him. Make sure you are with him. It's the most heart wrenching thing (I'm teared up with grief and empathy for you just writing this) but so necessary to help him exit with dignity.

Another yes.
Horrible decision to have to make, though.

Thank you everyone 💓 we've always said we'd rather a day early than a week late, but never taken on board the actual process. DH has spoken to the vet and they agreed for this evening.😭

we're going to carry him around his favourite sniffing spots (he likes a patrol before bedtime) and hide his fave food in the cupboard he always tries to break into (we'll leave it open and give him a hand if he needs it) so he can finally succeed!

Oh that made me cry. Happy tears. Sounds like a fabulous last day, lucky boy. ❤️

I'm sorry, its so hard. You're absolutely doing the right thing. They tell you when they've had enough, and all those signs are very much there.

Much love to you all. We had to PTS our rescue mutt about 16wks ago and I'm still a mess tbh, but it was the right thing for her.

Softoprider · 27/07/2023 10:53

Just think OP. He's given you 14 wonderful years, and this is what you can do for him now. I wish we could do the same for people as we can for our beloved pets.
Thinking of you x
