Can’t remove dog pee

One of my dogs has peed on my backpack. It can’t be put in the washing machine, spot clean only. I soaked it a bit and sprayed with an enzyme cleaner but it smells worse than ever. Nothing I use to clean up pee ever works. Baking soda, vinegar, detergent, enzyme cleaners. Hydrogen peroxide seemed to activate it x1000. The smell is so potent and impenetrable. It must be one of the worst smells ever for getting out of things. Does anyone have any better methods?

Sunlight usually removes smells. Can you hanging it on a washing line?

@FearTheWankingDead I’ve not long brought it in after hanging it out. It’s horrid smelling. Might try scrubbing with something again and hanging out tomorrow again if dry.

With things like this I normally stick in the washing machine anyway. You aren't going to use it shrinking of pee so nothing to lose if it gets wrecked in the machine. Put it in a pillow case first.

Liquorish · 21/07/2023 18:31

@OhhhhhhhhBiscuits that’s true. It seems to be the only thing that truly gets the smell out as well.

Honestly, I would machine wash it. Like PP said, you're not going to use it stinking anyway, so might as well give it a go!

OP, often it won't go in the washing machine because it removes any waterproofing on the material. You can buy special washing fluids for waterproof clothing that will maitain that.

I agree, washing machine with enzyme cleaner or bio washing powder.

Once dry use some water proofing as suggested above.
