Why does my idiot dog LOVE eating wasps?

Thread title basically. I have three dogs, one is a bit of a moron and her favourite snack in all the world is wasps. She will actively seek them out and eat them, she sort of clacks her teeth together hard presumably to kill them without getting stung, then happily munches them.

If I kill a wasp in the house she'll go to great lengths to eat it if I don't dispose of it's corpse quickly enough. She eats dead ones she finds on the ground.

She's no interest in bees, flies, moths or any other flying thing. Just wasps.

WHY. And how do I make her stop?!

Does she ever get sting?

I had one like this but after getting a swollen face a few times she learnt her lesson

Only once, she seems to be quite efficient at killing them without a sting, but it didn't put her off!

Maybe they're like the dog equivalent of popping candy? 😁

They must taste nice or be fizzy in a pleasant way or something I suppose or she wouldn't do it! Weird creature.

Dogs are strange. Mine likes to roll a bee in his mouth but then he spits them out much to the amazement of the confused bee.

The image of this made me laugh! Poor bee 😂

I’ve had two dogs like this. They actively sought out bees and wasps to eat and neither of them ever got stung. One of them also used to enjoy sitting out by the glass patio doors at night and eating the moths that landed there attracted by the light from indoors.

The dog I have now enjoys rolling on her back on the grass and has been stung because she accidentally rolled on a bee. Face. Palm.

PearlsaSwinger · 21/07/2023 18:06

Maybe he thinks they're fly sugar puffs?!

marmaladegranny · 21/07/2023 18:09

Years ago I had a dog that used to catch wasps head on, bite them in half and leave the sting part on the ground. She did it all her life, never got stung….

RestingMurderousFace · 21/07/2023 18:12

I have one like this. She keeps her lips pulled back and kind of chomps it with her gnashers. Reckon they taste a bit spicy. 😁

My lab had a bee that stung him when a pup, not touched 1 since. My other lab runs away, even from butterflies.

Ahhhh, the satisfaction of knowing you have a meme for that Grin

I had a lab who was fascinated by bees. We had a big lavender bush that attracted loads of bees and she would sit watching them intently for hours. She did get stung once but it didn't put her off. I miss that dog so much. 💔

Tg2023 · 21/07/2023 18:26

My dog loved eating spiders he would actually sort of suck them, spit the body out & munch the legs 🥴

BeansOnToast32 · 21/07/2023 19:06

Here's me obsessively watching my just turned one year old dog every time she's in the garden to make sure she doesn't snap at a bee or wasp because she is OBSESSED with jumping up and snapping at anything that flies only to find out that all your dogs regularly eat them with no ill effects. 😭

CoachPiggyStardust · 22/07/2023 20:28

In our house we call them Spicy Flies. One of the old dogs used to catch them regularly and never seemed to get stung. Of the latest dogs only one tries and has ended up with a fat lip a couple of times.

EnthENd · 22/07/2023 20:40

She gets a tasty and healthy snack and her owner gets some pest control. Not really an idiot is she.

AutumnDragon · 22/07/2023 21:01

We have one like this. We call them fizzy sweets, we assume they’re like tangfastics to her
