How to get a dog from Romania?

As per title. We are in Romania. Obviously stray puppy (thin, covered in sores)followed us on a 10k walk. Hubby fell in love with it…..and it appears to have fallen in love with us. We’ve taken it to the vet and it’s currently at a ‘pet hotel’ whilst we sort out the rest of the logistics. Anyone have any contacts/suggestions to get this puppy to the uk?
We already have one dog, we can afford a second, and hubby speaks fluent Romanian…..so those aspects of the relocation are covered. Thank you.

Yes! There is an organisation called, I think, PetAngels, or Angel Pet Transport, that will take your dog back to U.K, on a specially equipped minibus. It will need to be vaccinated and fit to travel (and you have to wait at least three weeks from the date of a first rabies vaccine) and microchipped. Whereabouts are you in Romania? There are pet hotels in Bucharest that could look after the dog until it is fit to travel.

It’s currently impossible to fly pets directly into U.K. The other alternative is to fly to Paris or Brussels and get someone to collect you and your dog from there.

Google the organisation and they will have dates when they next travel to U.K. and the cities in Romania where they collect from. Friends have used them for both cats and dogs and recommend them. They deliver your pet directly to your home in U.K.

Paws2rescue do amazing work with stray dogs in Romania, always found them amazingly helpful, might be worth dropping them an email for some advice as they will be aware of all the latest rules and regulations you need to follow

I second Paws to Rescue. My little dog came from them. She is a dream, the gentlest, friendliest dog I have had. They really care about the dogs.

My girl came from Saving Romanian Strays. They bring dogs here and re home them.

Please ensure this dog has all necessary heah checks and is tested for common K9 diseases.

I think we have it sorted. Turns out the owner of the pet hotel is an award winning dog trainer and breeds Belgian shepherd dogs for the police. He regularly exports dogs and has a close working relationship with the vet. I think the puppy and us fell on our feet!

PLEASE get it tested for Brucella. It’s not a mandatory test for import (yet) but if it has it and you bring it over, it will mean a death sentence for it and your existing dog.
