Did your dog need a collar after spaying? It's almost 20 years since I have had a female and I understand its keyhole surgery now?

Mine wore a body suit and she looked extremely cute in it. Don’t know if she needed it but vet recommended it

Not all vets offer keyhole surgery, it's an option but not standard.

Not all vets offer keyhole, but if yours does it's worth the extra cost.. mine was back out and running like nothing had happened by day 3! I put a doggy suit on my girl for the first 24 hours but she only had 2 tiny stitches and didn't bother them so I just borrowed a suit from a doggy friend.

She was more bothered by the fact she was shaved completely underneath in case she had to have a traditional spay (she's double coated so noticed the chill!)

You'll only get keyhole surgery (laparoscopic spay) if you ask (and pay!) for it. Not all vets do it either, so do your research.

We upgraded to laparoscopic, and I'm so glad we did as she was back to her normal walks and exercise 24 hours later. She didn't have a collar/cone of shame, but had a surgical suit instead (basically a babygro for dogs).

That's good to know about keyhole not being offered as standard, I will have to find out. @tizwozliz what a smart well suited outfit!

Agree ask if it's keyhole or not, our vet's wasn't. They did explain why but I can't remember the details now, I was so preoccupied with worrying about our dog!

Just look up post surgery bodysuits for dogs online, our vet actually sent her home in one but not all vets do. Plus I was glad I'd bought a couple as we needed spares when one needed a wash, and when dh forgot to undo the velcro or poppers when he took our dog outside to do her business a couple of times! Luckily it was just pee to deal with

Amazon do some good priced suits, you just need to measure your dog's chest, body

Oops, body length etc and look at the sizing chart. Worth reading the reviews as some come up small etc

A bodysuit was included with our spay. The zebra one was an emergency Amazon purchase after a toiletting incident (same brand as supplied by vet, cheapest colour 😂)

Thanks for replies, I don't know if a bodysuit would fit her as she is so Deep chested. Whippet x terrier. I might get her a squishy ring instead, although not being able to get to her paws will make her unsettled I think🙄
I know I will end up waking up throughout the night to check her anyway😂

Apologies OP, i have been out, in answer to your question, the body suit has poppers and fit round her tail. You open it and roll it up to take her out to pee, poo etc.
They are pretty stretchy so fit a wide variety of shapes.

They're really stretchy, they'll fit your dog. Mine's a greyhound cross, so also deep-chested, and there wasn't a problem.
