Got drenched again this morning. And yesterday of course!
My trusty old Decathlon jacket is no longer waterproof despite being resprayed regularly and I need a new one (sadly they no longer make mine). Preferably that covers my bum and of course has decent treat pockets and a hood that actually covers my head.
Any recmmendations? I can't afford an expensive Gortex one sadly.. max budget £150 at a push !

Oops, just realised you want one that properly covers your bum - this one doesn't as I find long ones too hot and restrictive.

I gave up with ‘cheap’ waterproofs and invested in a Mammut goretex jacket. Well worth the money. Light, breathable and amazingly waterproof. I got a 30% off first purchase. I keep things until they break so I’m happy to spend the money for something good.

My other one is a Craghoppers goretex which I got for £50 in the sale about 15 years ago and is still very much going strong. Their aqua dry jackets are good if you want a cheaper option.

I had a well used (wet west coast Scotland) Lands end squall for dog walking bum covering jacket for 10 years.

It was the winter version but it was breathable and waterproof (and very warm, only had to wear a tshirt under it which made it very comfortable too), pretty sure they did summer ones too.

Uniqlo Blocktech Coats - come in different lengths. I wear a short one for cycling

I bought this Trespass one from Amazon recently for £37.99

Trespass Occupy jacket

My criteria were much the same as yours. I'm really pleased with it although it hasn't been fully tested by the weather yet.

A fully waterproof coat is rubberised like the ones worn on a trawler ship and are sealed accordingly

Most jackets we would buy are water resistant otherwise we would sweat like crazy so they are made of special breathable material or zips that open to air

Floralnomad · 15/07/2023 17:08

Have a look at Cotton Traders , they have a few at very reasonable prices .

IngGenius · 15/07/2023 19:24

I also gave up on cheaper waterproof jackets. I bought a Paramo waterproof jacket and have in the long run saved money. I have had it for over 8 years and it still keeps me as dry as can be

I can be out all day and it will not let in any water at all. One of my better buys.

Spanielsarepainless · 15/07/2023 19:46

Lands End squall jackets. Sale now on and more affordable. I took mine beating in a day of torrential rain and I was the only person who stayed dry. Seasalt have a good reputation too. Their sale is also on!

Azaeleasinbloom · 15/07/2023 19:48

Right as Rain from Joules. Last years version which I bought in the sale. It’s been great - cost me about £65 sale price.

MrsPerfect12 · 15/07/2023 19:52

This was my purchase

Please recommend a waterproof jacket to me!

I have 2 seasalt raincoats - one for winter with a warm lining and a thin one for summer.

They are really good - they actually keep you dry - the sleeves are long enough, the hood is big enough.

DigitalGhost · 15/07/2023 20:16

Skipjack from Tog 24. Covers your bum and waterproof. It's breathable too so it's not that sweaty type.

DigitalGhost · 15/07/2023 20:17

Skipsea in fact!

Army surplus poncho. Easy to put on / off, plenty of room in it (I.e. goes over clothes, jumpers, treat pouch etc), and reasonably priced.

Copperoliverbear · 15/07/2023 23:40

Rain's raincoat but not warm in the winter, I have to wear a fleece underneath. X

SlowlyLosing · 15/07/2023 23:48

Didriksons stay waterproof, some great unpadded thigh length ones that you can layer up under in winter.

Thank you all for the links... going to check them out!
