Torn dew claw

Greyhound has just torn his dew claw, right where it meets his leg. He didn't make any fuss when it happened and I only noticed when he lay down on it and yelped. Vet is open tomorrow so I'll call them first thing to get it sorted, but I'm trying to remember, can it be snipped off under sedation? Very shit timing, but dh and I will be away (out if the country) from Tuesday and child minder doesn't drive so won't be able to bring him for follow up appointments. It's about a year since he banjaxed one, so I can't quite remember the protocol (and too many other injuries in the meantime have confused me)

My dog ripped both of his twice in the space of a year. (we ended up getting them both permanently removed after the 4th time)

One of the times he had to be sedated for it to be clipped back, one time he chewed it off 🤦‍♀️ and the other two times they trimmed it back with him awake using numbing spray. The time he had to be sedated he had managed to split it down the middle but both halves were still really stuck into the toe 🫣

Do you have a cone you can put on him to keep him from bothering at it? Hope you get him sorted tomorrow!

Ouch, your poor dog. Mine seems to be holding up this morning. I found some painkillers after I posted, left over from his last injury (2 weeks ago 🙄) and he was OK overnight. It beld a bit as he moved around overnight (his bed needs a boil wash again) but its stopped now. He hasn't been at it too much and he was very keen to go for his walk this morning so with luck the vet will be able to just snip it with some local anesthesia. Waiting for them to open so i can call for an appointment. Always a drama with this beast...
