Puppy bed for in crate

I am looking for suggestions on the best sort of bed for a puppy inside a crate. Especially for the first few weeks as it settles in. Also I’m going to have two crates, would it be essential for the beds to be identical do you think? Thank you!

Donut beds are great for the early days. Puppies like to curl up in them, and I imagine it probably feels a bit like being snuggled up in a pile of puppies so will be comforting when they first leave their Mum and littermates.

They aren’t expensive – I think I got my last one from The Range but you can find them in most pet shops.

Here’s one on Amazon… https://www.amazon.co.uk/Calming-Anti-Anxiety-Cuddler-Washable-Orthopedic/dp/B08SBZNT3F/ref=sr_1_8?crid=OD8DT7X8980R&keywords=donut%2Bdog%2Bbed&qid=1688581852&sprefix=Donut%2Caps%2C396&sr=8-8&th=1

And beds don’t have to be identical, you could try different types and they might prefer one to the other.

I put about twenty layers of newspaper then a puppy pad (only good use for them) then vetbed and a fleece blanket he had with his mother. It has to be easy to wash and dry quickly.

My puppy refused all the beds I brought to go in his crate, he likes a crate mattress with a blanket as he likes to sprawl and move about in his sleep, for the first few weeks he had a smaller crate mattress that took up half the crate the the other half was vet bed in case of random pees or poops but he never messed/peed in the crate so I swapped it to a full sized squishier mattress which he absolutely loves, he did love to snuggle with a soft toy with a heart beat simulator inside.

My pup ate 2 donut beds in 2 weeks 😕 Not sure what we should've bought but they weren't the right choice for us!

Seems like it will be a case of seeing what happens and being flexible (and not spend too much!).

Be careful with how fluffy the bed is, some breeds run more hot than others (northern breeds typically) and can overheat as puppies if they can’t get away from the insulating fluff. For my border collie and Scottish deerhound mix lurcher, we had to have a standard crate mattress (Ellie bo, there are others but the Ellie bo cover is available in waterproof) with a small dog bed insert covering half of the crate mattress so that she could curl up on the warmer, fluffier pad but could get away and onto a cooler surface if she got too hot.
