Car seat/harness

I was in a very bad accident yesterday - was stationary and hit from behind at 50 mph - my car is a write-off and my dachshund and I are stiff and shocked but very lucky.

I've been meaning for ages to buy a dog bed or harness for the car. This has really shaken me - he'd have been dead if he'd been in the front or the boot. Can anyone recommend something cosy (not a cage as he goes bananas) and above all secure? Photo just because...

Oh my goodness I'm so glad you're ok.

I thought it was illegal to travel without them restrained?

I have a cage in the boot attached to the anchors and a strap thing that goes into the seatbelt for the passenger seat - I clip that to her harness.

I have a sort of dog hammock which goes in the back seat attached to the headrests of both the front and back seats. This protects the car from mud and fur. Then it has a seatbelt inside it which I clip to his collar.

I’m glad you’re both ok. I used to have my dog in the boot but I was constantly anxious that someone would go into me and he’d be hurt or killed.

Crash tested crates have saved my dogs life in a car crash. We were crashed into from behind by an HGV, pushed off the motorway and rolled several times ended up stopped by a group of trees. So front and back of car pushed in.

Dogs got out and were walked away no damage done me however......

I bought the Ezydog for our old buy after reading all the reviews. Buy a crash tested one. Watch the crash test videos if you’re not convinced, they’re horrifying.
Dog found the Ezydog perfectly comfortable. He was able to lie down and sleep while he was wearing it.https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MDOZ9L9?tag=track-ect-uk-305844-21&linkCode=osi&th=1&ascsubtag=ecSEP64x0jljptjjty

I've tried a crate but he howled so much he puked and we finally gave up. Thank heavens he wasn't in the boot. The offside rear wheel ended up under the passenger seat

I hope he likes it - I know how fussy and stubborn dachshunds can be! He’s gorgeous btw.

Glad you are both ok.

I have a Kurgo booster seat that I put in the back seat of the car, it has two straps one that goes over the head rest and another that buckles around the seat, you can have it raised so your dog can see out of the window.

It also has a strap inside the seat that you attach to your dogs harness and you can attach the other end of the strap to the cars seatbelt. The seatbelt needs to be pulled across the cars seat behind the booster seat and fastened into the buckle.
