Recommendations for chew toys

We have a 1yr old Cockapoo. She loves chewing! We have antlers, nylabones etc and she chomps away on them. But, she absolutely loves the cuddly toys but she destroys them within half an hour. The longest lasting one we had was made by Kong and it was a reinforced fox....this lasted a week.

Can anyone recommend a toy their dog has had which withstood chewing for longer than a day?? She seems to be able to penetrate the seams then the stuffing comes out and she gets the threads out. It's not even the squeaker she's trying to get to, it's just the sheer amount of chewing and pulling she does that destroys them. She can't even have the rope toys as she obsessively pulls at the threads and swallows them.

I know we could stick to things like antlers, but she loves cuddly things! Any recommendations welcome, thank you.

The stuffing free ones usually last a bit longer, mostly because you can leave them with half of it still, as no stuffing to eat...

I just buy the cheapest ones available and accept that they’re one use tbh.

Our last dog loved the non stuffed toys and never destroyed them newpup however 😕😀

We are just buying him cheapy rustley soft toys and letting him get on with it.

He doesn't like nylabone or plastic we did get him a wooden one from pets at home he doesn't mind that, most of the time he chews on softer or rope toys.

The leg of an old pair of jeans stuffed with old socks/a T-shirt and sewn (or knotted if you swap the jeans for a fleece jumper arm) each end is a cheap and effective stuffie toy with a bit more durability

DustyLee123 · 29/06/2023 09:41

Mine is the same with soft toys, there’s nothing she can’t destroy in minutes. Unfortunately it means no soft toys or fabric of any kind. She even chews blankets sometimes.

It’s not just stuffing they eat though, they can swallow cotton and get it wrapped round teeth.

Oh aye, you still have to keep an eye out for the unstuffed ones too, just they last a bit longer because you tend to have a big safer piece even after it’s been a bit ripped.

where with stuffing ones, as soon as there’s a stuffing breech it’s a goner really.

Mrsjayy · 29/06/2023 13:20

Stuffing breech 😄

Thanks everyone. I like the idea of homemade ones using old jeans! Although I might have to just admit defeat and let her have cheapy toys, knowing they will not last. They bring her so much joy it's a shame to just limit her to hard toys like antlers.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 29/06/2023 14:51

I know a lot of people who just get cheap stuffed toys from charity shops? They won't last long but at least you're not going to end up chucking expensive toys in the bin!

Iamnotworthy · 29/06/2023 14:58

Kong wubba has lasted well here

Sounds like she’s an Eviscerator, OP
Charity shop soft toys - remove any eyes and noses)

I have the opposite type of chewer- Splinters fire wood, destroys wooden hairbrushes, and dustpan brushes but is gentle with soft toys
Her favourite proper dog toys are the squirrels and fox “ Raggers” from pets at home, these seem quite strong, but if she de- stuffs toys they might not be up to it.
Our dog parades about with them in her mouth.
