Adult dog suddenly pooing in the house every night

4 year old female dog, normally very clean has suddenly started pooing in the house over night, if it was the odd accident I wouldn’t be bothered but it’s been every night this week! She goes out before bed and has a poo yet still ends up doing a massive poo in the house over night. I’m baffled! It’s not diarrhoea either but they are massive poos.

Any ideas?

have you recently changed the dog food brand or time?
our older dog had this after the vet recommended a new product.

No diet change, no environmental change … I literally can’t think of any reason behind it

check online in case the manufacturers reworked the formula?
if not, then I’d discuss with the vet. Most likely it’s dietary, just not sure what they would recommend.

Eating something in the garden perhaps?

Could it be the heat? Sometimes my dog is sick when we have this really horrible humid weather.

I would take her to the vets if there's no rational reason for a change in behaviour.

You say her diet hasn't changed but has the quantity changed at all?

@ARareKindaBear how's your dog now? My 4 year old lab has been doing the same. His is very soft. He's otherwise 'normal'

I took her to vets and she has colitis bless her, is your dog pooing out bits of clear jelly?

I haven't noticed a y jelly but will keep an eye out, he didn't poo last night but this is the first time for about 10 days. He has vaccinations next week so will mention it to the vet.
Hope your doggy is OK, us he in medication?

She’s on antibiotics and anti inflammatory and the pooing in the house stopped for a week or so and has now started up again. I don’t understand it as she’s fine otherwise, only other thing is she’s getting tired very quickly now too when she used to be so hyperactive

Try egg it's gentle protein and binds them. It's settled our dog a few times

TwinkleTwinkleLittleCat · 03/07/2023 07:20

For the last 2 nights he hasn't poo'd and has had firm poo during the day, so um thinking maybe it's something he ate but will keep a close eye. Never been so obsessed with poo before😃

primoseyellow · 03/07/2023 07:56

@ARareKindaBear is it possible something is waking her like a noise outside, that is then making her poo as she is awake and normally would have slept through?
