Dog cooling jacket/vest

I have been looking at getting my dog a cooling jacket/vest. He is a French bulldog mix so want to make sure he is nice and cool to avoid him overheating.

I have been looking at the Ruffwear - Swamp Cooler Vest but not sure if it is worth the money.

Can anyone recommend one?

I think that vest just works on the wet towel principle. Whether or not it's worth it, to you, (vs just using a wet towel) is a personal choice, I think.

At the risk of being THAT person, I'd focus more on making sure the dog was...

a) not overweight, a lean dog will cope with heat better
and
b) has lots of options to lie somewhere cool: shade, fan, cool mat, maybe even a paddling pool
and
c) is not walked in full sun in warm weather

Yes have used the wet towel! He is very lean, all muscle and deffinately not verweight, he is mixed with a staffy, he has a longer nose so no breathing issues but obviously still finds it difficult to cool down he is also black! He has a cooling mat and bandana, he's not a fan of water but i will be getting him something to splash in and try and encourage him to use it. Plenty of shade for him. He is walked first thing. This is our second summer with him, he was a young pup last summer.

Brilliant! Then you sounds like you have all the bases covered. I personally wouldn't bother with a cool vest in that case - unless I observed my dog really struggling with the heat.

Other alternatives include frozen treats, such as something frozen in ice or frozen kongs or dog-specific ice cream. Something you can offer when he looks especially hot and something for him to do when walks are short.

Wet towels can trap the heat if not taken off supposedly as my vet advised against it unless they are checked on and removed regularly, I have a Freckles Cooling Vest, they are or can be made to measure, wash well and work well, my dog loves hers, I have brought a cheap small one from Pets at Home for my pup but it only covers his shoulders but it will do until he is fully grown and then I will get him a Freckles one. CUILLIN COOLING COATS

My Cuillin Cooling Coats (too good a pun not to use it!) are made from a soft lightweight nonwoven foam fabric that absorbs and retains water. This amazing fabric becomes really cold when activated by water. The coat will stay moist and cool for severa...
