Dog not eating or drinking

This morning I opened the door to let our nearly 6 month old lab/spaniel cross out in the garden. After about 5 minutes I heard him yelping and he came running in with a little stick. He dropped the stick and kept yelping. I hugged him until he was quiet and can’t work out what happened. My options are he got a splinter in his mouth or was stung by a bee in the mouth. He hasn’t eaten or drunk since and is dribbling a LOT which is very unusual for him. There is no swelling in the mouth or any where else. I’ve tried to look in his mouth but he helps when I open it. He has not peed either in over6 hours. I’ve taken him out for a little play and threw a ball, he ran after it and then yelped when he opened his mouth to grab it. So it seems a mouth or tounge issue. He’s having a cuddle now but not sure what to apart from taking him to the vet tomorrow. Any ideas?

I would ring the out of hours vet immediately. Not drinking or peeing would worry me.

I’d take him to the vet today as he’s in enough pain to not eat, drink or play.

Thanks, we’re on our way!

@pilipala29 if he's not drinking in this heat and hasn't had a wee in 6 hours I'd say he needs to go to the vet now, not waiting until tomorrow. I know that will incur cost of the vet emergency vet's, but he will become very dehydrated and poorly if you wait. If he isn't weeing he may already be dehydrated. Hope he feels better soon.

Hope he’s ok, poor boy. Update when/if you can. 🐾

They always have incidents when the vets are closed don’t they! Glad you’re taking him in though, he needs to be seen. Hope all is well.

Update! He has a 2cm deep cut in his mouth so it was painful to eat and drink. He was given antibiotics and pain relief and the cut was not infected. He’s eating, drinking fine now and peeing. All good. Thanks for your concern and advice!
