I think my girl may have had a stroke

Last night my DDog was acting a bit strangely when it was time for bed. She kept wanting to go out and almost like she had forgotten she had just been out. This morning she is really unsteady on her feet and her left eye is constantly moving. She is 14. My partner is away, 2 of my children are at work (late teens) and the youngest is here. She is my whole world but I need to get in touch with my DP to get the money in my account to take her to the vet. She seems ok, a little confused but laying in front of the fan looking ok. I am so so scared. I love her so much. I'm not asking for much more than a hand hold really whilst I wait for my DP to answer his phone (he is at a sports training event so won't be near his phone). Then he is going to want to drive home to her and he is hours away. This is so fucking awful. I can't bear the thought of losing my girl

The vet will see her and you can pay the bill later or tomorrow.
I hope she will be okay. Flowers

Take her to the vet immediately.

All the rest can wait.

Sending hugs - keep us in the loop. We're here.

Hopefully it is a vestibular episode - they can look very much like strokes.

She does need to be seen asap though

Hope she is feeling better soon

Your vet will see her and take payment tomorrow.

My old lady had this three weeks ago. Was a vestibular episode from which she has completely recovered. Good luck xx

I was going to say vestibular episode too. Our lab had it a few months ago and DS thought it was a stroke too initially. Although apparently strokes aren’t very common in dogs from his Googling.

Floralnomad · 18/06/2023 12:57

When you do take her to the vet get them to do her blood pressure as this is how our dog presented at first ( the original OOH diagnosed him with onset of dementia).

KnottyKnitting · 18/06/2023 13:13

It sounds like vestibular disease. ( inner ear balance thingy) My dog had this and we were convinced she had had a stroke. The nystagmus eye movements were one of the things that the vet mentioned as a symptom along with unsteadiness and a head tilt. She took about a week to get more or less back to normal but did get hit with it a few more times.

A really sad update. They thought it may be a vestibular episode but with her age and other factors etc they thought it was best to let her go. She was sedated and snoring when her heart stopped. I held her and told her I loved her over and over and told her she was the best girl and my best friend and soul mate. She will be for ever missed. RIP Mischa

My heart goes out to you. We lost our darling boy 2 weeks ago, also 14. The heartache is dreadful.
