I’m wanting to get a cooling mat to go in Snufflehounds crate for nighttime.
Shes 27kg so in a XL crate.
do the human cooling blankets you can get work for dogs too?

I like the Omlet cooling mats, they aren't the cheapest but nice and squishy and robust and last a few years, I find the cheap ones only last one summer as no matter how or where I store them they alway go mouldy over winter. Not sure about blankets but I do have a older design of a Freckles Designs cooling coat that is excellent and still going strong after a few years of use, and will buy another when my new pup has finished growing, their towelling dry coats are excellent too.

Thanks MCB, really interesting how the cheaper ones go mouldy.
will have a look at omlet

Ivy & Duke have made cooling blankets which they released at Crufts this year. So far our dog much prefers them to the squishy mats we've had in the past.

Do you need to keep them damp?

No! I have no idea what magic they are made of but they are cool dry and stay cool too. I definitely did not buy an extra one for me!

Far easier to carry around too, the usual cool mats are quite heavy but these are easy to move around the house (sometimes too easy as they get a good shake by Terrordog).

I've just been looking at the Ivy and Duke ones as mine won't lie on the plastic ones.

Oooh interesting, I will of course not also order one for myself either and might be easier with a puppy as I do worry about him chewing the cool mat and could safely go in his crate.

The ivy and duke ones look good but they’re not very big. I could only see one size

I’m interested in the cooling blanket wowlike recommends - but I tried copying the description and pasting it into Amazon but it didn’t come up…

moanycow now I realise it’s mould on the underside of last year’s blue squishy cooling mat…

Yes little black spots all over it that won't come off with wipe, My omelet cool mats didn't go mouldy, but did discolour slightly but that might have been from me not cleaning them that often 😳I have brought two of the blankets that @TerrierOrTerror recommended and they should hopefully arrive tomorrow, I will not be camping out by the gate post waiting for the postman and trialing them extensively before letting the dogs near them

They don’t do it anymore by the look of it, but this one looks the same.

Thanks Brenda - with that one you linked to I’m a bit suspicious of all the 5 star reviews. I’ve found similar ones on Amazon with mixed reviews.

I think I’m going for the Ivy and Duke one that Terrior recommends - it does look different to the Help for Paws one. moanycow happy testing! 😁

maybekauri · 12/06/2023 17:33

I looked up Ivy and Duke on Facebook- they’ll send you a fabric sample of the cooling mat if you email them at [email protected] so I’ve done that.

I bought ours about a week ago, i guess the hot weather has sent it out of stock.

Brenda, yes most similar to help for paws one. I looked at that before buying ours.
