Dog poo on long walks…

So, if you’re on a long walk with no poo bins nearby, what do you do with your poo bags? I just carry mine until we find a bin but is there a solution to store them without holding onto them? I’ve found a bag online but it’s £30. Anything cheaper? I thought maybe a Tupperware and putting it in a plastic bag inside rucksack but it doesn’t seem very hygienic and worried that would smell!

Anything cheaper than the below?!

Duck Soup Dicky Bag

The Duck Soup Dicky Bag is an airtight, lightweight, washable neoprene bag that hygienically stores stinky poo bags without smells....until you find a bin! Includes poo bags and a Dicky Bag air freshener disc, that fits in the bottom of the bag.

I just tie mine to the dogs' harness.

We have a Dicky bag, worth every penny!

dogfoodonmysocks · 05/06/2023 09:09

you can get special clip things that go on the lead to hang bags on, one brand is called a Doo-Key I think. But I use a long line so those wouldn't work for me as I'm always reeling it in and out. I have one of the dicky bags and it's been a game changer! Worth the money in my opinion, I love it! Altho it's so good at trapping the smell that I sometimes even forget to empty it Grin

Helenloveslee4eva · 05/06/2023 09:11

Dicky bag is good. Can’t even smell it if you leave it in the car with a bag in it - but after a few days 🤣
I just carry now

Newpeep · 05/06/2023 09:12

I find the bags with no handles are really good at keeping the smell out if you tie it tightly. We used to have a container but it broke so now I just put it in my dog walking bag or side pocket of my rucksack until I find a bin.

The Dicky Bag is definitely worth the money, particularly if you want to stop for a picnic or pub lunch. Nothing else we have tried has prevented the slight whiff!

When we went on our first holiday with our dog to Yorkshire we noticed a distinct lack of any kind of bins in carparks so we often had to drive off with a bag or two and it was grim. The Dicky Bag is now a must have, we keep an emergency one in the car. As a PP said though it is all too easy to forget about it and it is pretty grim after a few days.

For shorter walks a holder to clip on the lead keeps it away from hands.

I have a washable nylon bag with two separate compartments, one for empty poo bags and the other for the used ones. It clips onto the lead handle. It’s perfect, I much prefer it to the clips that you hang bags on. I don’t remember how much it cost but it was definitely much less than £30.

Another vote for the Dicky bag, despite the expense... We've had ours almost 10 years and worth every penny. I do echo what pp have said though, because it contains any odour so effectively, I have sometimes forgotten to empty in when I get home!

anotheropinion · 05/06/2023 13:16

I double-bag if I have to carry it any distance, so the outside is definitely clean and smell-free. Then put it in the outside pocket of rucksack, boot of the car or wherever.

Most annoying when on a run. The bugger poops shortly after the last poo bin leaving the village, so I'm obliged to carry it for miles while running.

Another vote for the dicky bag. Goes in the "Expensive, but Worth it" category. Also, the videos on their website to help you judge which size you need are great ... www.dickybag.com/size-guide

Got to add my voice to the Dicky Bags Are Fab crowd! I was put off by the price at first, too, but we do long walks and beach walks and it’s totally worth it. It clips to the outside of a rucksack and doesn’t smell at all.

Drumbalina · 05/06/2023 17:06

Thanks all, I might invest in a dicky! 🤣

You want a Dicky Bag, absolutely worth every penny and you won't smell a thing and no chance of putting a hole in a poo bag. We've had one for 10 years and it is still good as new, though we do have another 2 that live in each car so there is always one around.

Cupcakequeen75 · 06/06/2023 14:04

Have a karabiner on the lead and clip the bag onto that.

Ariela · 06/06/2023 15:12

I have a couple of these, to pop my poo bags in, which I can popper to the dog lead handle if I don't actually want to 'carry' it, or I can pop through the belt tab on my jeans. They're waterproof and washable, and I like the prints.
