Hello, my brother and his GF are getting a puppy soon. I suspect it is a surrogate baby to an extent as they likely won't be having kids.

I feel the need to buy something for it as a welcome to the family gift. It will have to be small and relatively light to post to them overseas.

Any suggestions for different ideas? Open to novel suggetions such as toys, accessories like bowties for pictures (it's a medium size breed), cute things, anything useful.

Also attractive and quality items would be welcome - suggestions. Nothing too cheap and cheerful (that said I am on a budget!).

Whereabouts overseas? It might be easier to find a pet shop in that country and order something from there.

Otherwise something like a lickimat?

There are any number of toys you could buy but I think this would be a nice gift. I haven’t used one for any of my dogs but have seen them recommended on here, reviews are good and if someone had given one of my pups one, I would have thought it was a lovely thoughtful gift.

both great suggestions thank you! Actually thinking about it they will be visiting soon so I can hand it over in person, so buying in the UK would make sense. But they will have to take it back with them so would still need to be lightweight.

Love both of the ideas above and will probably order both!

I think one of the most used things I got at the start was a snuffle mat. It helped occupy her/tire her out/calm her down at the start when you couldn't take them out.

Not the prettiest of all gifts but I guarantee this, along with lickimats etc suggested unthread will help them lots. I never knew they existed until a dog owner told me about them.
