Morning, I have a gorgeous 9 week old cocker spaniel who I absolutely adore but it is so challenging so it would be great to have some support with other dog mums currently going through the same thing 😊
Breakfast time now…

Waves hands frantically… me me me! I’m here!

9 weeks & 5 days golden retriever here.

The chewing kicked in yesterday. One trainer and one remote down already.

left the teenager in charge for like 20 minutes 🤦🏼‍♀️

she’s adorable but my god im tired.

@Woeismeitappears oh no I’m not looking forward to the chewing stage! My cocker is just bitey at the moment when tired and/or hungry.

I am exhausted, missing the good night sleeps that I used to have

It’s brutal isn’t it. It reminds me of the newborn stage.. just when you are about to crack they give the most adorable smile and suddenly it’s all ok again!

tbh Eevee is a really good pup so far. Very clever and we are just making sure she gets decent naps as there is a distinct deterioration in the chewing when she’s super tired. I’ve spent a fortune on various chew toys.. split antlers seem to be a win so far.. no interest in the nylabones, which is just annoying cos my last pup didn’t like them either and yet I still bought them!

have you discovered whimzees yet? I swear by their rice bones. A decent 20 minutes or chewing which then leads to s decent length nap!

im back to work today (half days so home at lunchtime) and the 17yo is in charge. Dread to think what I’m coming back too!

twistyizzy · 30/05/2023 07:50

I always recommend Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy + lots of wine to get you through the first weeks.
WCS are the worst baby sharks ever. Just don't forget they are a working breed so harness that intelligence. Good luck, the first 3 months can be hell 😵‍💫

Moanycowbag · 30/05/2023 09:13

We have just turned 16 weeks and chewing has begun, poor poppet makes little squeaks and moans at times so I think his teeth are hurting, but still don't appreciate seeing him with the skirting board/door frames/rocking chair legs in his mouth, but the toilet training has come on leaps and bounds and he sleeps through the night, so that's a blessing, obligatory photo included

Another 9 week old cocker here. She’s beautiful, clever and totally loved. She’s also extremely hard work and her teeth are so so sharp. I am going to Google rice bone!

What food are you feeling your pups ??

AmyyL · 30/05/2023 13:40

Aww gorgeous! (Boy or girl?) So tiny. They almost seem too little to be away from Mums don't they.

We're 14wks in and I veer from regretting getting her and staring adoringly at her!

It really is very tough, I'd never get a puppy again but things I've learnt are they learn some things quickly, so start early with recall. We use a whistle and she immediately comes back to it when off lead in a field. Antlers are the best chews imo, not cheap but they really keep ours occupied for ages when the plastic ones seem to lose their appeal quickly.

AmyyL · 30/05/2023 13:47

'Very clever and we are just making sure she gets decent naps as there is a distinct deterioration in the chewing when she’s super tired'

Definitely this. Ours isn’t very good at going off to bed herself for daytime naps so I kind of tuck her in with a toy at my feet, I know it'll be making a rod for my own back but the big sleeps are worth it. Biting is definitely worse when overtired.

Woeismeitappears · 30/05/2023 14:32

I’m feeding barking heads at the moment which is what the breeder had her on.. eventually will transition her to Millie’s wolfheart.

MamaSparkles · 31/05/2023 22:08

Joining in! 8 week old sighthound here! Can't wait til we can properly get out the house!

How are we all doing?

I am Utterly knackered quite honestly. I’m not entirely sure how I forgot just how much hard work this is.

she is utterly adorable but it’s just so bloody constant. She had an accident last night, first time in a few days. Woke up at 3am as usual to take her out for a wee and the smell Just hit me.

so at 3 this morning I was washing blankets and what not.

then up at 5:45 for breakfast. Not sure how we ended up with 5:45 when 6 just feels so much more humane.

we have cracked touch, sit and down now and started our walks yesterday, she was remarkably confident but a bit spooked by cars going past so more work needed on that.

the biting is off the charts. I have so many bruises. She’s like a ninja 😩.

11 weeks today.

We are 17 weeks here, sleeping is going so well and he goes through the night, we can get to three day of no indoor accidents but then something always seems to happen on the fourth day and he has a wee, but we haven't touch. wood had a code brown indoors for weeks now, and he has lost lots of his little front teeth, we are working on wait as we are quite good at sit, down, touch, focus/look at me, but he was dreadful at training class last week as he just couldn't focus had his fill of treats and just was over tired and done, so hopefully he will be better tonight at training if I can get a good lunch into him and a good sleep this afternoon, it's just so hard when all the local training classes are in the evening bang on his witching 3 hours 😂

Anyone else struggle to get them to eat three meals? As he wants to naturally graze but with an overweight older dog who is a dustbin, I cannot leave food around as she wolfs it down as puppy food is just the best.

Can I join? Just got an 8 week old cocker. He's great and chilled out (bar a few crazy minutes before a nap). Very bitey though so I'm trying to redirect with a toy every time he starts mouthing.

Aww @MamaSparkles that's the first puppy I've seen that has a look of my own. Though the sweet bandit eye mask has become less pronounced with time here 😪 Gorgeous, what are they crossed with?

I second @Riverlee everyone is welcome on the puppy survival thread :)

MamaSparkles · 08/06/2023 12:53

@Unluckycat1 he's a saluki! He's not kc so could have something else in there, but I'm already in love. His big brother is a lurcher, so he's already rough and tumble lol! Can I see yours?

Oh look at the sleepy pup! Sleepy snuggly pups are just the best ❤️

Unluckycat1 · 08/06/2023 15:38

Oh lovely @MamaSparkles everyone asks if mine is a saluki cross (I'm not sure as she's a rescue, I just know she has lurcher in her). This is her at 11 weeks and 6 months. I hope you keep posting pics, would love to see yours as he grows :) salukis are so striking!

Hi All, Hennipup is now 12 weeks old, and is utterly adorable (until the biting starts - she’s then basically a flying land shark)
Shes all vaccinated now and has started having little walks, limiting these to 15 mins a time. She normally just has one walk a day at the moment but that will change.
Shes off on her first ‘holiday’ tomorrow where we’re caravaning at a dog show and the following week we’ll be starting ring craft lessons as I plan to show her.

I only clicked for the puppy photos and boy, I was not disappointed.

Thanks everyone, you’ve brightened my day.

MamaSparkles · 08/06/2023 19:56

@Unluckycat1 Omg! She is gorgeous! I would definitely say there was Saluki somewhere there! This is my lurcher, I have totally fallen in love with sighthounds since having these two!

Little munchkin has very much discovered her teeth over the last few days.. my poor lab is being eaten alive! He’s so patient with her ❤️

Woeismeitappears · 22/06/2023 13:20

13 weeks today. Gone is my cuddly puppy. Instead she has morphed into a biting, snarling demon who lies in wait for you to walk past so she can savage you.

sleep is going well, sleeping 10-5am with no accidents..

the chewing is another level tho. She ate my fire. Like the walls of it. I left the boyfriend in charge for 30 minutes and I came back and it had happened.. now of course it’s her absolute favourite thing 🤦🏼‍♀️

she’s also discovered her voice. She barks to play, barks for food, barks because I’m not letting go of the tug… she also does this adorable leap at the same time… the barking is being totally ignored which she isn’t a fan of either 😂

shea also dug an astonishky large hole in the garden… which wasn’t appreciated.
