Could this be oral cancer?

Sorry for the graphic photo. Our 11 year old Lhasa apso had this growth found in her mouth (see pic) yesterday. Vet said it needed to come out and would send off for histology but refused to be drawn further on what it might be (benign or more malignant looking). I realise this is best as we don't know until we get biopsy back (she's having it out next Wednesday) but I can't stop catastrophising. It was an incidental find at a routine check. She had a tooth clearance eight months ago and it was not there then. She appears completely unaware of it still eats well etc., are there any vets that might be able to theorise? Anyone out there with a dog that had an oral cancer like this lump appears?

I had a dog who had tongue cancer. It didn't look like that but no reason why it would. I didn't want to read and run. Best of luck with the results. You really won't know until you know so try to stay calm x

Hope it isn’t the dreaded C but your dog is clearly in need of a dental clean. Hope all goes well

I will have everything crossed for you and your dog. I have had a dog with malignant melanoma. He had a growth in the top of his mouth, towards the back of the gum line. His was black but he did have black gums. I will say that my vet took one look at his and said 'I am sorry, that really doesn't look good', and she was right 😢 Maybe it is just different practice policies or maybe you will be lucky, which is why your vet didn't want to speculate.

Yes, I agree with this too.

I have no idea what the lump could be OP and I hope it's good news, but I'd really recommend getting your dog booked in for a clean ASAP.

Yes I'm dismayed at her teeth too she's had two tooth clearances/scale and polish I'm shocked that only eight months after the most recent one this is found - and indeed her teeth (what's left of them) look grim

Are you brushing her teeth? If not, you really need to start if possible.
