Things to treasure about your dog...

I was walking along the road in my slippers last night at 11 pm being slightly annoyed at the fact the dog had taken it on herself to sniff every single leaf in the hedge - a delicate considered sniff. Then I thought, there'll come a day when I'll miss this, taking her out for her last wee and her deciding to decode everything about the hedge.

When our last dog died we put all these little memories in a notebook - the annoying as well as the sweet! We didn’t want to forget all the tiny things that made up her life.

Current dog:
Snoopervising when we chop cucumber or carrots.
How long she will dig a hole at the beach…….we suspect until forever (or teatime) unless we make her stop.

We lost our old dog last year. So many things we miss ...one poignant one: At Xmas our young adult dd was home, she came downstairs in the morning and burst into tears because there was no sound of him flapping his ears.

So sorry to hear about the dogs that are no longer with you.
My Ddog still doesn't get loose lead walking... however I can tell she has a happy look on her face as she walks in front of me due to the odd person walking past grinning at her (and occasionally commenting on how happy she looks). It makes me smile that she's made someone else smile with her enthusiasm for her walks!

Their cuddles.

I lost one of my dogs just over 6 weeks ago and I miss lots about him - even coming home to an accident to clean up.

Mostly I miss him doing his morning stretches with his front paws on my leg.

Almost 17 years he was always just "there" and now he's not. It's shit.

Another of my dogs is also getting pretty old and I'm cherishing everything he does right now - even the waking me up at 5am for a cuddle 🤦‍♀️

Mine does the downward dog stretch every time he gets up from sitting/lying down, and sleeps on his back with his legs wide open.

I will miss my lab’s silky ears.

I lost my darling girl 2 weeks ago, I miss absolutely everything about her, she was a lap dog and was either on my knee or in my arms, the structure of my day has completely gone, particularly in the last 18 months of her life when she needed so much more looking after due to her age and illness, at the moment I am utterly lost, my DH and me have created a photo memory book, and a little memorial area for her with her picture, collar, and her ashes together with a tea light, it helps a little bit, she was our world.

The way my labrador sighs like she pays taxes and works a full time job 😂

The sound of ears flapping as they shook their heads, the ends of their ears bobbing as they trotted along. The way they ran like dogs possessed with utter joy. Lying next to me on the sofa or in the garden sunbathing. The head tilt when they look like they're trying understand what you say. The feel of their soft coats. Wagging tails. 😭

The way my dog looks into my eyes, there is so much love between us. He got me through losing my husband.

BarrelOfOtters · 16/05/2023 07:48

@Brumbies im so sorry. My DH says our girl literally saved his life, she arrived a couple of months after his son passed away. And has been the best therapy ever.
