Easy peazy puppy squeazy by Steve Mann

I preferred Pippa Mattinson's book The Happy Puppy. I found the Puppy Squeezy book far too chatty and had to wade through a lot of verbiage to extract information. I used THP for most of DearDog's first year and I have had dogs for over three decades. It's clear, well illustrated and really first class.

I prefer the Rough Shooters / working dogs training guides. They're aimed at training gundogs but are a mine of proper information for raising a balanced and well mannered dog rather than namby pamby new stuff that potentially treats animals as people and can leave you with a less well behaved /uncontrollable dog.

Easy peazy puppy

the happy puppy

read lots (kindle unlimited has loads Inc puppy squeezy so might be worth doing the 3 months 3 to read a mixture)

take what you like and understand don’t feel you have to stick to one exact method, trust your gut as all dogs are different and you’ll understand yours best

i quote like the absolute dogs stuff but they are very shouty and high energy. They have a lot of free content about though

what breed is it? And people might have more specific recommendations based on that

finally find a good trainer you like and are happy with and have as many lessons as you can from when pup is small. Ask to watch a lesson or speak to someone they are training/ check reviews

Group classes can be good but don’t go to ones that are a free for all, you want your pup to think you are the best thing in the world not other dogs & people it’ll make it much easier as they get older

Thank you all! It’s a Labrador. We are going to meet them tomorrow but I just know we won’t be leaving there without having put a deposit down haha
my biggest concern atm is we’ve just got a new sofa!!! Oops 😖
