Comfortable long lines

We used a flat webbing long line when Ddog was a puppy but it’s uncomfortable to hold and a bugger to wash and dry when it’s dirty.
What lines do others use that are more comfortable? As she’ll never be hitting the end of it at speed it’s not so much the discomfort of it pulling through my hands but more for the holding in a loop and relooping up. The webbing one is also quite heavy.
No retractables, please, this is for proper long line recall training as her recall has gone to pot a bit lately and we want to improve it following positive training methods in suitable areas (so no woods, no swimming, no playing with other dogs - she’ll have plenty of chances to do this).

I've got biothane long lines for the same reason; my webbing one got wet, dirty and smelly. The biothane ones wipe clean. None of mine have a loop on the end. They were about £15 on Amazon.

Biothane! Best thing ever!!!

SpamhappyTootsie · 09/05/2023 20:46

Thanks, I’ve been looking at biothane, good to know they live up to the promise! Any particular make?

Opposing view! I hate Biothane with a passion. It is really really slippy when wet and can give horrendous burns unless used with gloves when wet. It is also heavier than many long lines when both are dry

I prefer houndagrips lines which have rubber added to keep it lighter and also does not slip but can just be wiped if wet and muddy.

SpamhappyTootsie · 09/05/2023 20:55

Damn, I’m allergic to rubber, @IngGenius 🤦‍♀️ and they look pretty good.

I used a horse lunge line when my dog was a puppy

I found them easier to hold as they were thicker

I was looking at Rock It Dog, I’ll investigate further, thank you.

Was that the rolled fabric type or leather, @alloalloallo ?

We had a Canny long recall lead. Great quality, and has padded grips at various lengths along the lead which made it much more comfortable to use.

Just a fabric one from the tack shop.

Theres a loop at one end, they’ve got a little bit of stretch and where they’re slightly thicker I found it so much easier and more comfortable to hold.

I started using it when I forgot her normal long line one day. We have horses so had a lunge line kicking about in the boot of the car.

They're not overly long though

alloalloallo · 09/05/2023 21:08

Sorry, posted too soon.

It’s the rolled fabric type, rather than the flat webby type.

Lunge lines! The ones for horses, stronger, often longer, more durable, often cheaper
