Kennels

Does anyone have any advice on looking for kennels?

Our dog has medical needs so not even sure if they'll take him but we'd like to start looking ready for next year and have some time to settle him somewhere if needed.

Would live to hear your advice, practical or otherwise, especially if your dog also has a medical condition.

They vary. I personally like them as all the home boarders near me aren’t great - too many dogs, too many toys etc just lying around, all fed together, just asking for a scrap. Generally slightly daft folk that obviously love their dogs but aren’t the best owners/ knowledgable people!

Our kennels are great, if you have medications needed, they will happily sort them to your dogs schedule, can tailor walking to suit your dogs - two hours running around a day, fine, two 20 minute lead walks, also fine! Lots of enrichment activities and supervised playtime too.
Whereabouts are you?

I think our feeling is kennels might be a bit more geared up to dealing with his medical needs. A home environment sounds better but our experience with home daycare means the people running it often don't have much variety in their experience.

He is also quite timid around other dogs so will appreciate his own space.

We're in Berkshire, but happy to travel for the right place.

I debated this but my dog too is nervous of some other dogs. I found a small kennels which is indoor and highly rated. Recommend you try send your dog on a few overnight stays beforehand to settle them in. Unfortunately we are miles away from you or would name them.

I would recommend home sitting at sitters house or yours every time.
I use rover and from the reviews you can tell who is worth using. You get to meet the sitter before finalising, so if you book far in advance you have loads of choice.
