Time to say Goodbye

Our 16 yr old JRT has been in a slow decline.

We took her to the vets about 6 weeks ago when she was showing signs of aggression. The possibility of dementia was discussed as was the option of PTS.

We decided to try analgesics for any pain she was suffering and to see how she got on. She did calm down and brighten up so it was the right choice.

She went downhill at the weekend and we knew her time had come. DD was away, returning on Sunday pm shocked at how lethargic DDog was.

She keeps brightening up and DD asked if we could give her a chance to bounce back.

DD is an HCA on 12hr shifts today and tomorrow and off on Wednesday so the loose plan was to go to the vets on Wednesday.

Today has shown further decline and it’s hard to watch, she doesn’t appear to be suffering but certainly isn’t happy, having left her food tonight.

I don’t think we can wait until Wednesday but expecting poor DD (22) to say goodbye before work is going to be awful. 😢

She’s in her probation period in a new job but was (genuinely) off sick last week.

I’m sorry what you are going through, love to you and your lovely dog.

I am gearing up to letting mine go, and I have told both my adult DC that although I will try to time it for when they are able to come too, his needs come first and if they aren’t around I might not be able to wait for them as it’s not fair. I have told them to say their goodbyes by spending time with him now, before he is declining much further. I know my DD1 really wants to do goodbyes but it might not be fair to wait for her to get back from work, I can’t promise her this. I know it’s really hard, and there is never the right moment you just have to do what’s right for your dog. Get your daughter to spend this evening with your Ddog and say her goodbyes in the time she has now, perhaps that’s best?

Thanks @LabelleLabelle much appreciated DD is just back from work and agrees that she can’t wait any longer.

There’s now a lot of tears about her not being able to work tomorrow but acknowledges that is a side issue.

I’ve just told DS too 😢
