Dog constantly barking and howling when left alone.

Our next door neighbour’s adult son comes to stay and brings his dog. All is fine when there are people around, but if they go out and leave the dog alone it clearly sounds distressed. Last evening the dog howled and barked for more than two hours non stop, maybe three.

We are going to have to say something, but I think it may be disregarded as the dog doesn’t live there.

The poor dog needs help. Do say something. Separation anxiety is complex and a long haul but CAN be helped.

Thank you. I’ve looked at the RSPCA article on their website too, and that was helpful. I’m already concerned that the dog isn’t exercised or played with enough, and is bored.

RSPCA won’t care. To start with make sure neighbours are aware. Other than that it’s a noise issue.

Noise complaints need to go to the council - the RSPCA won't care as long as the dog has food, water and shelter.

But if the dog isn't there all the time and the noise is "only" for a few hours, I suspect the council won't care much either, unfortunately.

I wasn’t intending to contact the RSPCA, I was just looking for advice on their website as to why the dog was barking and howling. I think the neighbours are oblivious because they aren’t there when the noise is happening.

I spoke to my neighbours about their howling barking young dog. I noted the time it started and finished. Fortunately they were very good about it and dealt with it.
One suggestion is to close all curtains because barking can be generated by passers by etc if the dog sees them.

Poor dog - I expect the neighbours at his usual home are so glad when he’s elsewhere with his owner.

The son and his dog seem to have left now, so their usual neighbours will have the problem back.
