Does this look like a cyst? Photo attached

My dog has started with a growth above her eye. She's had it for a couple of days now and it does not seem to be causing her any pain. She lets me look at it and touch it.

Is it something that I need to take her to the vet for right now or do you think it would be ok to see how it goes?

I would take her to the vet asap because it's not worth the risk.
Especially when it's close to the eye.
My dog has had cysts and mast cell tumours, and they can look very similar.

Thank you, I really hope it's not anything like a tumour. Do you think they will need to do a biopsy?

My dog had EXACTLY this and it turned out to be where the other dog (annoying puppy) was licking her eyes. Advice was to keep him away from her and to bathe the eye with warm water/keep clean. Went away on its own. Always worth checking with a vet though, but fingers crossed its the same.

I’d get it checked because if you need it to come off the smaller the better for margins and enough to sew back up . They may be able to do a needle biopsy at the appt to send off .

We have just had a lump/wart removed from my dogs eyelid. Was a relatively simple op because we did it whilst small.

I would see a vet before it gets too big.

Get it checked :)

She's very pretty btw, beautiful little dog!

My dog had something similar in exactly the same place. It was from a tick bite and eventually went away. I think it's worth getting this checked out by your vet.

You need to see a vet. Please don't just assume it's a cyst.

We've just been through this with our beagle - his lump looked exactly like that. The vet said it could be a mast cell tumour or something called a hystiocytoma which is non-cancerous - she prescribed cream and booked him for surgery and a biopsy.

Luckily his turned out to be a hystiocytoma - it disappeared with the medication and he never needed surgery but it was an anxious wait as she said you just can't tell without getting it tested.

Good luck!

Possibly a needle biopsy

LegallyFit · 13/04/2023 11:31

Thank you everyone. I will get her booked into the vet to have it looked at, just in case it's something more sinister.

Thank you also to the poster who said she was a beautiful dog 😊. She's a cheeky little monkey.
