Just wondering how accurate they are, and if any are better than others.

My sister used Wisdom Panel recently and was really pleased with the service.

hedgehoglurker · 11/04/2023 19:37

Yes! Wisdom Panel.

We were unsure of the mix of breeds of our 3rd rescue, as he was described the same mix as our 1st. JRT x Cocker Spaniel. Despite not looking similar, not only was the mix confirmed as the same, they were full brothers from different litters!

Our 2nd (of 3) rescue was supposedly a JRT x Dachshund, but had been abandoned at 15wks. She is actually a JRT x Yorkie, which is very clear now that she is grown.

Both I've described as the majority breeds, but there are smaller percentages of other breeds included too.

Very accurate

Said dog was 100% his breed - he very obviously is

(Was a present from an idiot in my Dh's family)

We've just done one for our newest member. Don't know how accurate it is as you can only take what they tell you. All I can say is that it was easy and quick to do. I've heard people doing more than one test on the same dog and getting different results. This was also with wisdom panel.

I've used other tests (can't remember the names, but was pleased enough with the results to do the same again.

CleaningOutMyCloset · 11/04/2023 19:59

Oh I meant to say that when we got the result I couldn't see it, she's a cross with 1/3 one breed, 1/3 another breed and then a mixture of about 6 other breeds. But a dog she was 'related' to looked exactly the same as my dog. So it must have been slightly accurate

I've never used the sites, but do people post photos of their dogs on their and you can see those that are closely related???

Ylfa · 11/04/2023 20:06

I used Wisdom Panel for a European Village Dog, it’s almost the canine version of 23andme and Ancestry now as you can even contact your dog’s genetic relatives as well as look at a suggested family tree of breeds etc.

The health information is genuinely useful, eg finding out how well quite a few commonly used medications might work on your dog, or whether they are prone to clotting problems in case of surgery and so on.

Thank you for all your positive replies. I was a bit dubious, but interesting to see others experiences.

Yes. It doesn't request photos when you submit the samples, but there is the option to add photos later.

You get the option of posting photos if you want to. They show you any matches or 'relatives' and the % of that match.

@CleaningOutMyCloset @hedgehoglurker - thanks for the info re pics. I'm going to look into it.

Uurrjb · 11/04/2023 21:46

I did one for hereditary illnesses carried by the breed but not a breed check as I knew she was a pure breed based on her KC registration..which one did you do
