My DDog was just barking in his sleep

It sounded so funny because he didn't open his mouth to do it, so it was sort of muffled. Grin Whatever he was barking at has left his dream now and he's back to snoring. He's not usually an active dreamer, just the occasional paw twitch.

Oh yeah, love a dream woof!

Newpeep · 08/04/2023 21:12

Our last dog used to howl in her sleep occasionally. It was quite eerie if it happened at night.

CrapBucket · 08/04/2023 21:13

My dog has amazing dreams, he’s always barking and yelping and doing little bits of running. They are just the cutest when they’re asleep aren’t they.

Paperbagsaremine · 08/04/2023 21:15

They totally do. My dog has a VERY rich dream life - it was particularly nice to see when he was unwell and his waking hours weren't very comfortable. I thought, well at least everything is good when he's asleep!

When I was a child our golden retriever did that once, a proper wolf-howling-at-the-moon thing but with his mouth closed. He woke himself up and looked very surprised to find himself lying on the carpet in front of the TV instead of chasing down deer with the pack. Grin

I'd love to know what they are dreaming, I sometimes wonder if Ddog is trying to speak! She does moofs when she's dreaming (moof because she can't open her mouth to make a woof sound😂)

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 08/04/2023 22:37

A 'moof' is the perfect word to describe it. Grin

Sleepy woofs are the best! My dog has full on growling barking running dreams, I’d love to know what he dreams about!

That’s hilarious!

FangedFrisbee · 08/04/2023 23:03

Our little border terrier was just wagging her tail In her sleep!

PuppyMonkey · 08/04/2023 23:10

Oh our golden retriever dream howls too, I love it.Smile

Annoyingwurringnoise · 08/04/2023 23:12

My little staffie would full on thump her tail in her sleep, like proper boom boom boom wagging.

longtompot · 08/04/2023 23:21

Mine sounds like she is upset when she moofs in her sleep (fab word, and perfect for it) I love seeing her feet twitch into an almost run on her side. It's when she wakes herself up and looks confused about where she is that's so funny too.

MaryDerry · 08/04/2023 23:28

I love doggie sleepy woofs and sleeping yowling. I try to imagine what they dreaming about.

Ours goes "wu wu wuuuuuu' over and over.
This evening I've been watching her legs do sleep running.

I'd love for my dog to be able to speak to me for just 5 mins a day to find out what's going on in her head.

embolass · 09/04/2023 00:52

My border collie does a full on wolf howl, always in middle of the night, it’s the most eerie sound to hear at 0300!

BooperKisses · 09/04/2023 01:13

My German Shepherd sleeps on the bed with me, so I often get the ‘moofs’and the sleep-running legs!
Her most active times are when she’s been to kennels.. it’s like she re-lives it all again… I get some disturbed night but it’s quite funny to listen to!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 09/04/2023 01:34

My dog rarely barks and never growls when he’s awake but he barks and growls all the time in his sleep! He also enjoys a good dream run and eats in his sleep, but then he is a Labrador 😂.

sashh · 09/04/2023 02:32

When I was a child we had a golden retriever.

She would fart and then look round at her bum confused.

This made me chuckle :-)

wobblyweasel · 09/04/2023 03:37

My border collie who is sleeping by my side at this moment, has just had a twitching fit, he's done some muffled woofing, has had hiccups, and has done a loud fart - all whilst sound asleep!

heidbuttsupper · 09/04/2023 07:39

@sashh I dog-sit a wee cockapoo that does this all the time. It is hilarious. He had no idea he had made this noise

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar our family dog used to 'moof' in their sleep all the time. Adorable.

EraOfTheGrey · 11/04/2023 20:29

I have a little dog that barks so seldom that I would struggle to recognise it. She makes up for her general silence by having incredible adventures in her sleep, she will yip, grunt, groan, coo, sigh, wag and run. She's just marvellous.

ilovesushi · 11/04/2023 20:37

Our dog almost got caught in sinking mud on the beach today. She was making muffled barks while napping this afternoon. I wondered if she was reliving it!

userxx · 11/04/2023 20:40

My dog used to look like he was playing the piano whilst asleep.

usernamealreadytaken · 11/04/2023 20:56

We have an ex-racing retired greyhound - he not only woofs in his sleep, he also growls, runs and wags his tail (which is massive and very noisy). He does make us smile :-)
